Bishopsgate Club, Foleshill Road, Coventry, was the setting for the regional play off for the BDO British Champions Cup and winners of the men’s event was West Midlands. A final clear cut 7-2 victory over Leamington gave the West Midlands the title thanks to wins from Peter Wyse, Ian Jones, Lol Frazer, Richard Foster, Jamie Hughes, Chris Hickman and Chris Plumpton.

The women’s play off turned out to be the complete opposite with Leamington handing out a 5-0 whitewash to West Midlands in the final. Winners for Leamington were G.Marshall, Trina Gulliver, Sue Biddle, Viki Franklin and Denise Burke.

The two winners, West Midlands and Leamington will now go forward to the grand finals at Staverton Park, Staverton, Daventry this coming Sunday, where the men will be chasing a top prize of £1,000 and the women £700.

With Andy Hutchings not playing any games this week in the Carlsberg Olton Double Top League, Tony Randell and Pat Sinnett have both taken advantage and ousted him from second place to fourth. Sinnett did his cause a power of good beating Randell 3-0 to move within one point of him and second place, both players notched a maximum in the tie. Randell after a 2-1 win against Warren Taylor is now seven points adrift of leader Bob Nixon who added a 3-0 win over Steve Sidwell to his tally.

Olton RBL have lost pole position in group one of the Sheldon and District Summer League after going down 5-3 at Riley’s Arrows. Moving into the number one spot are Bromford Bridge Members Club Exiles, who handed out an 8-0 whitewash to bottom of the group Old Bill and Bull, giving them a three points lead over both Olton and Riley’s Arrows, with Riley’s having played one game fewer than the two teams above them.

Group four leaders Yardley and District Darts Team lost their first game in six, a surprising 5-3 defeat away to Sheldon Social who are next to bottom of the group, however they hang on to their top spot with a two points advantage over Holy Souls who reduced the arrears with a convincing 7-1 home win against Greville Arms.

There was an upset for Three Horse Shoes in the Tamworth Sports Bar League this week as they lost for the first time in ten games. Playing away to third in the table Sports Bar 180, the Shoes finished on the wrong side of a massive 6-1 result. Nevertheless, Shoes top spot was not an issue as they still boast a huge 22 points gap between them and their nearest rivals St Johns Club who won 4-3 against Globe ‘B’.

In the players league Clyde Hooper stretched his lead to three points with a win over Richie Baker who drops into third place behind Mac Tarbuck who beat Graham Gilliver. Wayne Deeley was in top form this week, beating Mark De Leon, it was Deeley’s first win in nine.

A 180 from Richard Holmes was not enough for his team, Wagon and Horse losing 7-2 at Redhill Tavern in the Small Heath League. Redhill are now just two points behind leaders Mitre and second placed Devils, in the only other game played Emerald Club had a 6-3 away win at Custard House.

Both of the top two teams in the Gulp League, Tigers and Lions in turn recorded 4-3 wins against Tribe and Rebels. Tigers remain six points ahead of the field and also keep intact their unbeaten record, nine straight wins.
