The Sheldon and District Winter League are winding down their season with cup matches. The most recent have been the Vice Presidents Trophy and the Jubilee Trophy, the first being a round robin competition between the league average winners. Each of the three players, Terry Webster (Saltley Amateur Gardeners), David Sutton (George V) and Terry Constable (Redhill Tavern), won one game the title went to Terry Constable, who won the most legs.

The Jubilee Trophy was won by Shard End Social representative Mark Kirwan who defeated league chairman Alan Mayell in the final. Losing semi finalists were George V duo David Sutton and Clarke Horsley.

The Gulp League has also been engaged in cup rounds as well as day to day league fixtures. In the first round of the L R Wyatt Cup there were wins for the Who’s and Tigers, who in turn took out the Rebels and Beasts.

On the league front there was a shock for reigning champions Tribe as they fell to a 5-2 home defeat against the Tigers, who have taken over pole position with four straight wins and a maximum 8 points. Tribe are joint second with Lions who won their home tie with Rebels 4-3.

In the thisisdarts Individual League Ian McFarlane has caught up with the rest of the field playing three fixtures this week. He recorded 3-0 wins against both Stuart Bliss and Terry Blakemore, plus a 2-1 success against Steve Cousins to give him a total of 101 points, a massive eleven points lead over chasing duo Adam Gallett and Robbie Earle. Gallett had a 3-0 win over Rick Barberan and 2-1 wins against Lee Beech and Luis Barberan, Earle did not play any games this week.

Just one maximum scored and that was supplied by Mark O’Donnell in is 3-0 win over Steve Cousins.

On the agenda for the Pip Club League were preliminary rounds of their Challenge and Open Cups. In the division one game for the Challenge Cup Sports Bar beat Red Lion, while in the division two fixture it was Travellers who won through to the next round at the expense of Progressive Club.

There were two matches in the Open Cup, J W Belgrave Club beating Moat House and Old Liberal Club accounting for Kettlebrook Club.

St John’s The Baptist Community Club, Chelmsley Wood was the setting for the Bank Holiday Bonanza staged by TD Events. A strong field of 43 players took the oche all chasing the top prize of £400. The final was the best of eleven legs between Tony Randell and Nigel Heydon. Randell raced into a commanding 4-0 lead before his opponent replied by winning the fifth leg. However, Heydon’s response was short lived as Randell won the sixth and seventh legs to secure a convincing 6-1 victory.

Heydon received £150 as runner up and there was £75 for each of the losing semi finalists, Scott Rand and Pat Pace.
