A home tie against Glamorgan was the latest fixture for Warwickshire in the premier division of the Riley’s BDO Inter Counties Championships. Lying dangerously close to the relegation area a win was what was need from the local county and that was exactly what they provided. The men’s ‘A’ made it four wins in a row and three consecutive 8-4 results. Top man for the ‘A’ side was again Noel Grant, who improved on his last average of 31.31 with a superb 32.28. The ‘B’ also won 8-4 and are now been unbeaten in the last four outings, their man of the match was Mark McGeeney, who also had a top average of 32.00.
It was not such an enjoyable weekend for the ladies, neither of them having recorded a win so far in this campaign. The ‘A’ team lost 4-2 with Trina Gulliver (24.24) once again the lady of the match, while for the ‘B’ Angela Jones (14.05) was the sole winner.
Nevertheless the overall result of 19-17 was enough to increase Warwickshire’s lead over second from bottom Hampshire to four points, with two games to play.

In division two West Midlands are riding high in second place behind London and their away game against Berkshire saw them return with a 20-16 victory to leave them 30 points behind the leaders, but more importantly seven ahead of third placed Suffolk.
Unlike their local rivals it was the ladies who produced the goods for West Midlands with the ‘A’ side chalking up a 6-0 whitewash over their opponents, Tammy Chance (16.27) their top player. The ‘B’ finished all square at 3-3 with Liz Arnold (13.89) lady of the match.
In the men’s games the ‘A’ went down 7-5 and the ‘B’ gad a 6-6 draw, Dean Stewart (29.16) and Richard Foster (24.76) taking the respective match awards.

It was cup semi finals week in the Four Oaks and District League. First the Brian Goodman Singles Cup in which division one leaders Sutton Sports trailed 3-2 to Oscott Social, but Sports then turned the screw to go on to win 7-2. Pint Pot Flights had an impressive 5-4 win over Old Oscott Arrows with their M.Watts hitting a maximum.

In the premier division of the Sheldon and District Winter League the battle is on more for the runners spot than the actual title as Saltley Amateur Gardeners, on 38 points have already wrapped up the title. Mackadown Social and Olton RBL are locked together on 30 points with the former just holding onto second place with a couple of legs of average more than their rivals.
In division one it looks as though it will be a fight to the end between Old Bill and Bull and Kingshurst Labour Club who both have 30 points, Old Bill leading the field on average only. That is not the case in division two where Yardley Arms have a four points cushion over their nearest challengers Ridgemere Social.
