Second round cup fixtures were on the agenda for the Four Oaks and District League this week. First the Coronation Shield in which second division Oscott Social pulled off a surprise 8-7 win over first division’s Boldmere Sports, the game going to the wire and Oscott winning in the very last leg. Biggest winners of the round were Old Oscott Arrows who had an unexpectedly easy 10-5 victory over Sportsmans Rest. The Fox beat Pint Pot 9-6.

In the Norman Day Cup Drakes Drum and White Lion both had comfortable 11-4 wins over respective opponents Royal Oak and Deer’s Leap Stags, while Deer’s Leap beat Boldmere Flights 10-5 and Brookvale had a closer 7-5 win against Aston Social, both teams unable to field a full team.

On the night maximums were hit by J.Leydon (Oscott Social), R.George (Aston Social) and M.Deathridge jnr (Deer’s Leap Stags).

With Beaufort Social Club having a bye this week in the Small Heath League, the Mitre won their tie with Redhill Tavern 5-4 to draw level on the same 18 points as Beaufort and still have a game in hand. St Andrews Tavern lost ground in the title race as they went down 5-4 at home to Custard House leaving them two points behind the leading duo and having played more games than both of them.

Week 16 in division one of the Sheldon and District Winter League provided a couple of surprise results as leaders Kingshurst Labour Club lost for only the third time as they finished on the wrong side of a 5-4 verdict away to Yardley Ex Flights who are seventh in the table. Bagot Arms drop one place to fifth following their 5-4 defeat at Shard End Social who are eighth. Kingshurst stay on top but are now joined by Old Bill and Bull who beat Yardley Ex Colts 6-3 and are now level on points and average with Kingshurst.

Glebe Community Association who also surprise losers in division two. The fifth paced Glebe travelled to take on next to bottom Maggies and lost 6-3. Ridemere Social dropped to fourth place after a similar 6-3 defeat at Shannons.

In the premier division Saltley Amateur Gardeners hold on to their six points advantage with a 6-3 home win over Scanlons, while Olton RBL, who are second in the table had a close 5-4 win at Crown ‘A’.

Semi finals were the order of the day for the Pip Club League. In the division one Shadow League Knockout there were wins for Birchmoor WMC and Sports Bar 180 who in turn defeated Queens Head and Belgrave Club. The division two semi finals saw Two Gates Club and Polesworth Darts Club progress to the final at the expense of Red Lion ‘B’ and Old Liberal Club.

Winners of the league’s Triples Knockout were Red Lion ‘A’ representatives Darren White, Mick Smith and Mark Slater, with Paul Corfield, Clyde Hooper and Alan Carter, from the Sports Bar, runners up.

The Gulp League were engaged in the finals of their E/L.Ollerenshaw and L.R.Wyatt cups. In the former the Beasts beat the Lions in the final and taking the title in the L.R.Wyatt Cup were league champions the Tribe, with St Andrews Tavern runners up.

The league’s Sports Bar Cup final will be held at the Sports Bar on Thursday 1st April, a final reminder that the league will be holding their AGM this coming Friday at the Victoria Club, off the Warwick Road.
