This coming weekend West Midlands will play hosts to Lincolnshire in their division two fixture in the BDO Inter Counties Championships. The match will be staged at Gilberts Bar, Willenhall and the home side will be looking to make it two wins in as many games in a push to make a quick return to division one from where they were relegated last season.

Saltley Amateur Gardeners have a two points lead at the top of the premier division in the Sheldon and District Winter League, their latest success being a 6-3 win away to Sheldon Dukes. Newcomers Crown ’A’ have joined Mackadown Social in second place on 6 points and also level on average. Red Lion have dropped to fifth place following their 6-3 defeat at Olton RBL both teams also have 6 points.

In the second division Highwood stretched their unbeaten run to four games with a 5-4 home win over Redhill Tavern, while in the battle of the Yardley’s it was Yardley Ex Flights who finished on the right side of a 7-2 result against Yardley Ex Colts to lift them into second place in the table.

Custard House kept up the 100%win record with a 6-3 victory away to bottom of the table Redhill Tavern Flights and are now two points ahead of another new team to the league Forget-Me-Not. Small Heath Gardeners Flights are third again two points behind the leaders but have a game in hand. Glebe Community Association, who have lost their last two games against Forget-Me-Not and Small Heath Gardeners Flights have slipped to fourth place in the table.

Winning through in the preliminary round of the Punch Bowl were, Yardley and District Darts Team, RAFA, Sheldon Dukes and Shard End Social.

Two Gates Club and Kettlebrook Club will meet each other in the final of the 180 Cup in division two of the Pip Club League after, in turn defeating North Warwick Cricket Club and Red Lion ’B’ in the semi’s.

Sad to report the passing away of Martin Wadsworth, Martin was a long serving player for Warwickshire, the Sports Argus Charity Team and Mitchells and Butlers Exhibition Team. He also played in numerous other knockouts and league’s throughout the Midlands. He was a very popular and well liked man and will be sadly missed.

The funeral will take place on Tuesday 3rd November at Christ The King Church, Westhill Road, Coundon, Coventry, at 10.30am.

For the second successive week Smethwick Labour Club have lost in the Harborne and District 401 League, this week’s 6-3 defeat was inflicted by league leaders Hillyfields ’B’, who made it eight wins from eight games and now have a four points lead at the top of the table. Early season leaders Thimbermill are currently fourth in the league with a game in hand, a win in that game would see them move up into second place.

Eight maximums were recorded this week in the Four Oaks and District League, the most in a single week in the league’s history. Making history were D.Jarvis snr (Cross Keys PPA), P.Koyce (Cross Keys Arrows), L.Harris (Sutton Sports), R.Stanton (The Fox), A.Kimberley (Deer’s Leap), K.Redfern (White Lion Barrels), D.Lowe (Brookvale) and P.Donovan (Yew Tree Old Boys).

In division one Sutton Sports came from 4-3 down to Sportsmans Rest to snatch a 5-4 win as did Deer’s Leap in division two against Aston Social.

In the third division leaders White Lion Barrels followed up their opening 8-1 win over Reddicap Tavern with a similar 8-1 victory away to Bromford Social.

There was a shock 6-1 home defeat for Tribe, leaders of the Gulp League, with lowly placed Devils their victors. Nevertheless, Tribe hang onto pole position and their two point’s advantage as their nearest rivals, Trotters suffered a 5-2 home defeat at the hands of the St Andrews team.

Mitre had a comfortable 7-2 home win over Custard House in the Small Heath League to remain top of the table. Beaufort Social Club have taken over second place after a 6-3 win against Emerald Club, but Potcheen Still who are third have played one game fewer than the teams above them and anything more than a 7-2 win would see them go clear at the top.
