This coming weekend Warwickshire kick off their new season in the Premier Division of the BDO Inter Counties Championships with a home tie against Yorkshire and a new venue to stage their games, Bishopsgate Club, Foleshill Road, Coventry.

West Midlands start their campaign in division two with an away match against Suffolk playing at the Riverside Snooker and Social Club, Stowmarket. The Sheldon and District Winter League began their new season and in the premier division reigning champions Saltley Amateur Gardeners got off to a flyer wining 8-1 away to Crown ‘B’. There were two similar results in division one with Vaughans winning at Shirley RBL Misfits and in their home tie Redhill Tavern beating Shard End Social. 8-1 was also the biggest win in division two, Maggies going down at home to Small Heath Gardeners Flights.

The Forest of Arden Winter League is holding it’s AGM on Wednesday 14th October at Sheldon Heath Social Club. With leaders Thimbermill having their fixture cancelled this week in the Harborne and District 401 League, Hillyfields ’B’ took full advantage chalking up a 9-0 whitewash over Quinton Members Club to go top of the table on 8 points. Smethwick Labour Club beat Bell Inn ’B’ 7-2 and are level on points but are one point of average behind Hillyfields. Thimbermill have dropped to third place, two points adrift but with a game in hand.

At the other end of the table the two bottom teams squared up to each other and the result was an emphatic 8-1 victory for Bell Inn ’A’, which lifted them two places in the league, their opponents Quinborne Social ’B’ remain rooted to the foot of the table.

It’s as you were at the top of the Carlsberg Olton Double Top League with nothing separating Bob Nixon and Tony Randell. Nixon had a 2-1 win over Warren Taylor followed by a 3-0 success against Rhys Duncan. Randell meanwhile neat Neil Clarke 2-1 and had a 3-0 win against Steve Sidwell. Third placed Lee Harris reduced the arrears slightly to five points with two straight 3-0 wins over Tim Lowe and Luke Coles.

There was a shock for Glascote Club in division one of the Pip Club League as they lost for the first time in seven games. Playing hosts to Sports Bar they lost 10-6, but they remain in pole position on 11 points. Three Horse Shoes have joined them on the same number of points after their 11-5 home win over bottom of the table Winning Post, just one leg of average separates the top two teams.

In division two there were two massive 16-0 wins for Two Gates Club and Polesworth Darts Club, who in turn defeated Birch Coppice and Cuckoo’s Rest.
