In the latest round of fixtures Bromford Bridge Members Club Exiles, leaders of group one in the Sheldon and District Summer League, won a vital match when they played away to third in the table Mackadow Social. Their 5-3 victory has seen Bromford extend their advantage to four points over both Saltley Amateur Gardeners and Mackadown, although Saltley do have a game in hand.

At the other end of the table Olton RBL moved off the foot of the table with a 5-3 home success against Sheldon Dukes who have replaced Olton in the bottom spot.

In group three Red Hill Tavern suffered their second defeat of the campaign and at the same time have dropped from pole position to second after going down 5-3 at Highwood ’A’,. Highwood have now joined Red Hill on 10 points, just one adrift of leaders RAFA who won 6-2 against Scanlons.

Group four brought together the top two teams Kingshurst Labour Club and George V. The result was a 4-4 draw leaving George one point behind Kingshurst. With a 5-3 win at Sheldon Social third placed Vaughans have closed the gap on the leaders to 4 points.

Group five’s top team Highwood ’B’ dropped points for the first time this season as they were held to a 4-4 draw at Shannons however, they still have a massive six points lead over second placed Shannons.

Bob Nixon marches on at the top of the Carlsberg Olton Double Top League adding another two wins to his tally in week 8. Nixon’s first game was against Jim Norris and in his 2-1 win he notched two maximums. He then went on to beat Chris Connelly 3-0. Tony Randell was another player to record two 180’s in one game plus a 12 darts leg in a 3-0 win over Karl Attwood.

Other players to find the three treble twenties this week were Paul Higgins, To Kelly, Jim Norris and Wayne Matthews.

The Small Heath League played off their Mixed Doubles Knockout and the two successful players on the night were Gloria Lightwood and John McCaffrey. Losing finalists were June Wallace and Darren Brown, while Sarah Burbridge and Neil Parsonage plus Alice Swann and Terry Constable made their exits in the semi finals.

After the majority of teams have completed ten fixtures in the Gulp League only average separates the top two teams and just two points is the difference between the leaders and fourth place, Tribe still lead the field following their 6-1 win away to the Who’s, then comes Rebels who beat Pickwick 4-3 at home. Third in the table Lions had a comfortable 6-1 home success against bottom team Clements, while fourth placed Trotters game against Beasts was cancelled which leaves them on 14 points with two games in hand on the three teams above them.

The Victoria Club was the setting for the league’s Mixed Doubles Knockout and taking the honours with a final win over Colin Walsh and Becky Blakeman were Mick and Ann O’Sullivan. Losing out in the last four were John McCaffrey and Gloria Lightwood and Terry Constable and Jackie Francis.
