The Olton Double Top League have kicked off their new season and have secured a lucrative sponsorship deal from Carlsberg, the league will now be known as the Carlsberg Olton Double Top League. There was a good turn out for the opening games with 28 of the 32 signed players turning up.

Four have had a perfect start to the season with two straight 3-0 wins. The players Steve Harding, Bob Nixon, Phil Randell and Tony Randell have a maximum six points, one more than a pack of five chasing players.

Three maximums were hit on the night by John Sidwell, Mark Wall and Steve Harding, Sidwell also had the highest finish of 115, with Ian Spencer recording the fastest leg of 13 darts.

Carl Winters added another three wins to his tally in the Brook Meadow Individual League, he beat Mark Elkin 3-0 and Martin Bliss 3-0 and 2-1 to give him a total of 1-6 points from 26 games. Carl’s current nearest rival is Tony Comerford who played no fewer than five games this week, he beat Simon Davis and Jason Farthers 3-0 and Chris Davis (twice) and Jason Farthers 2-1 to put him on 95 points, eleven fewer than Winters.

Scott Austin chalked up the only maximum in his 2-1 win over Stuart Bliss, while Tony Comerford had a 160 break against Chris Davis.

Olton Legion, currently in pole position in the Forest of Arden Winter League had a close 5-4 home win against Red Arrows in their latest fixture, Bob Nixon helping them on their way with a tremendous 160 game shot. Second placed Highwood kept on Olton’s heels with a 6-3 away win over Sheldon Arrows. The week’s biggest winners were Golden Acres who had an emphatic 8-1 victory over Greville Arrows, Sheldon Flights not far behind with a 7-2 win at Ivy Leaf.

A final reminder that tonight the Forest of Arden Summer League will be holding their AGM at Sheldon Heath Social Club beginning at 8.10pm, following the winter league meeting. Anyone interested in entering a team in the league for the forthcoming season should be represented at this meeting.

The Small Heath League have played off the quarter finals of their Upside Down Cup. Wagon and Horses had a convincing 7-2 win at Small Heath Amateur Gardeners, while both Emerald Club and Stechford Social Club had narrow 5-4 wins over respective opponents Custard House and Potcheen Still.

Redhill Tavern had a bye.

Kettlebrook Club and North Warwick Cricket Club will square up to each other in the Pip Club League’s Charity Shadow Cup tomorrow evening at the league’s headquarters the Pip Club.

Sad to report the death of Beryl Johnson at the age of 70 years, way back in 1980 Beryl was one of the instigators of the current Warwickshire Ladies Super League and from being the original secretary later became the league’s chairwoman.
