The latest round of games in division one of the BDO Inter Counties Championship League saw both Warwickshire and West Midlands gain vital wins.
Warwickshire had a home tie against leaders Gwent and the weekend could not have got off to a better start with the men’s ‘B’ winning 10-2 and the ladies 5-1 with Tony Nolan (27.83) and Louise Graham (19.35) taking the respective match awards. Sunday’s encounters were also top draw as the men won 9-3, Steve Hine winning the man of the match award with a tremendous 32.27 average in his 30-1 win over Chris Jones, while yet again it was Trina Gulliver (29.85) who won the ladies top player award in a 3-3 draw to give a fabulous overall win of 27-9 to Warwickshire and take them top of the promotion table with 147 points and pushing Gwent into second place 19 points behind them.
West Midlands started their game two places off the bottom of the table, but a 21-15 win has seen them climb to a respectable fourth position. The ’B’ matches saw the men win 8-4, Richard Foster’s 28.36 average earning the match award, while Liz Arnold (15.93) took the ladies in a 3-3 draw.
In the ’A’ game’s the men shared the points in a 6-6 draw and the ladies recorded a 4-2 win. Stepping up to collect the ’A’ awards were Steve Farmer (29.67) and Leanne Jennings (23.48).
