The group one title in the Sheldon and District Summer League was decided on the very last game of the season and it was oh so close. Leaders Saltley Amateur Gardeners played away to Olton RBL and returned with a convincing 7-1 victory. Second placed Brook Meadow also played away, travelling to take on Shirley RBL, they won 6-2, and that was the difference between winning and losing the league title, one point of average as both teams finished with the same 15 points.
In group two Mackadown Social have one fixture remaining and a win in that game with bottom team RAFA would see them leap frog Sheldon Dukes and win the title by one point. Stechford Social won group three, seven points clear of Old Bill and Bull, and Highwood ’A’ with a six points margin beat Yardley Ex Colts to the group four title.
Shard End Social and Kingshurst Labour Club both ended the season in group five with 16 points, but with a slightly superior average the former took claimed the number one spot. Highwood ’B’ won the group six league with 15 points, four more than runners up Golden Acres.
R.Lucas (Old Bill and Bull) had a great season in group three as he not only played all ten fixtures but won all ten, the only player in the league to go through the fixture card undefeated.
Congratulations to Brook Meadow who with a convincing 7-0 scoreline over Mackadown Social won the Mrs F. Richman Trophy.
