Quite a few upsets in the Sheldon and District Summer League in week eight. In group one former leaders Olton RBL suffered a most surprising home defeat when lowly placed Banbury Club beat them 7-1. Saltley Amateur Gardeners have taken over pole position following their 6-2 win at Shirley RBL, but only on average from Olton.
The two bottom teams in group three, Lea Hall Sports and Social and Vaughans met on Lea Hall’s board, both without a win in seven games. The result was a 5-3 win for the visitors Vaughans to lift them off the foot of the table, Lea Hall replacing them.
Shard End Social and Kingshurst Labour Club, respectively first and second in group five played each other and the result a not too surprising 4-4 draw to leave the two teams locked together on 12 points with Kingshurst having a game in hand.
Golden Acres had their first defeat of the season in group six when they lost 5-3 at Custard House. Highwood ’B’ remain in the number one spot after handing out an 8-0 whitewash to Small Heath Amateur Gardeners.

Ian McFarlane has opened up an eight points lead at the top of the Brook Meadow Individual Double Top League and still has a game in hand on his rivals. Week 13 fixtures saw him gain a vital 2-1 victory over reigning champion Trevor Frost in which Frost recorded two maximums. Mark Birch is currently second his games included a 3-0 win over Mark Elkin and a 2-1 success against Terry Clay.
In the singles knockout Trevor Frost beat Terry Clay 3-0 and in the doubles there was a 3-2 win for Mark Birch and Mark Elkin against Ross Macken and Tony Comerford, while Keith Kelly and Jason Evans beat Mathew Gallett and Jake Smith 3-0.

A 3-0 win against both Lee Harris and Steve Harding has kept Bob Nixon at the top of the Olton Double Top League with 59 points. Tony Randell is Nixon’s nearest rival on 54 points, he hit two maximums in a 3-0 win against Mark Wall, who also hit a 180, and Randell then beat John Sidwell in straight legs and notched a further maximum.
The title race is still wide open as Andy Hutchings in third place is on 51 points, fourth is Mick Gorst with 47 and fifth Lee Harris on 46 with a game in hand.

The Harborne and District Summer League have had the second rounds of their Cup and Plate knockouts on the fixture card. In the Cup second division leaders Old Crown chalked up a superb 8-1 home win over their first division opponents Man on the Moon. Hillyfiields ’B’ also had a similar success against their division one opposition Quinborne beating them 6-3. In the all division one game Hillyfields ’A’ won 5-4 at the Pheasant and division one leaders Smethwick Labour Club beat division two’s Quinton Members Club 7-2.
In the Plate Midland Red got the 6-3 verdict against fellow division one opponents Bell Inn in a high scoring affair where D.Bourne had a 160 break and T.McGlone hit a 180 (Midland Red) and for the Bell T.Brennon and K.Bambrick both hit a maximum.
The all division two affair saw Pheasant Flights win 7-2 against Avenue Social. Bartley Green F.C. and Woodgate Sports and Social both had a bye into the semi finals.

The Pip Club League have been engaged in their Division One Cup. The first round saw Wiggy 180, Globe Inn, Sports Bar Tamworth and Glascote Club in turn defeat Queens Head, Belgrave Club, Bull (Polesworth) and Dolphin.
In round two Globe Inn beat Wiggy 180 and Glascote Club took out Sports Bar Tamworth. The two winning teams will meet in the final on the 2nd October at the Pip Club.
