The second round of the Mrs F. Richman Trophy was on the fixture card for the Sheldon and District Summer League. Biggest winners of the round were Bromford Bridge Members Club and Brook Meadow who in turn defeated Pavilions and Iron Horse by 6-1. Also going through to the next round were Shirley RBL, Mackadown Social, RAFA, Saltley Amateur Gardeners, Sheldon Dukes and Small Heath Gardeners Flights.

Finding the three treble twenties were D.Doak (Golden Acres), P.Allen (Saltley Amateur Gardeners), P.Moran (Banbury Club), A.Sleath (Small Heath Gardeners Flights).

Hillyfields ’A’ lost ground in the title race in division one of the Harborne and District Summer league as they lost their home tie against the Pheasant 7-2. They are now four points adrift of leaders Smethwick Labour Club who beat Woodgate Sports and Social 8-1 and four behind Midland Red who had a 6-3 home win against Man on the Moon. At the other end of the table Bell Inn have moved off the bottom with a cracking 8-1 away win over Quinborne who were three places above the Bell.

In division two both of the top two teams lost but hang on to their positions. Leaders Old Crown suffered their first defeat of the eight match campaign so far. Playing at Pheasant Flights they returned on the wrong side of a 5-4 scoreline. Second placed Bartley Green F.C. had a similar defeat in their game at Quinton Members Club.

Week 12 in the Brook Meadow Individual Double Top League and leader Ian McFarlane has an eight points advantage plus a game in hand on second in the table Matthew Gallett. McFarlane recorded two 2-1 wins this week against two other title candidates John Burdett and Mark Birch. Matthew Gallett also had two 2-1 wins in his games with Jake Smith and Jason Evans.

Two games were played in the singles knockout, Ross Macken beating Terry Blakemore 3-0 and John Burdett taking out Mark Elkin by the same margin.

McFarlane and Blakemore teamed up in the doubles to beat Trevor Frost and Clive Checketts 3-1, and John Burdett and Terry Clay won 3-2 in a close game against Jason Evans and Adam Gallett.

In week 10 of the Olton Double Top League Andy Hutchings did not play and so his close rivals for the title had an opportunity to knock him off the number one spot, which they did. Bob Nixon with a 2-1 success against Phil Randell and a further 3-0 victory over Mark Price has moved up into pole position with 53 points. Tony Randell has taken over the number two spot despite a 2-1 reversal at the hands of Chris John from which he bounced back to beat Paul Nunn 3-0 giving him a total of 48 points, Hutchings is now third with 47 points, all three players have played 20 games.

Last Sunday Tipton’s men’s team represented the West Midlands in the British Champions Cup in the play off at Canley Sports and Social Club, Coventry. In the quarter finals they squared up to Northampton shire and recorded a superb 7-2 win. The semi finals brought together West Midlands and local rivals Warwickshire. West Midlands booked their final place with a 6-3 win. In the final opposition came in the form of Bedfordshire, another 6-3 win saw them crowned as Midland champions.

Following their Midland Area win Tipton now go forward as West Midlands representatives to the grand finals at Staverton Park, Staverton, Daventry, Northamptonshire, NN11 6JT this coming Sunday, 17th August.

Unfortunately I have to report the sad news that on the 12th August Mick Hartland passed away. Mick was a keen darts player and over the last few years has represented the Potcheen Still in the Small Heath League.

Sympathy and condolences go to Mick’s family from all of his friends and darts colleagues at this sad time. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

Canley Club, Coventry is the setting this coming Sunday for the Midlands play off of the Winmau World Masters. Twelve counties will be represented at the play off’s namely, Staffordshire, Warwickshire, Worcestershire, Shropshire, Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Northamptonshire, Cambridgeshire, Norfolk, West Midlands, Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire. Two men, one woman, one boy and one girl will go through to the grand finals in Bridlington.
