Mark Wall still has the number one spot in the Olton Double Top League after a 2-1 win over Tom Kelly in which he hit a maximum and a 3-0 success against Paul Nunn, giving him a total of 42 points from 19 games. Second in the table Andy Hutchings was another player to hit 180 in his 3-0 win over Mick Sidwell. Hutchings then beat Tom Kelly 2-1 but lost his next game by the same margin against Phil Randell to leave him three points short of Wall’s total with two games in hand.

Tony Randell is placed third on 38 points from 16 games and he chalked up a 160 finish in his 3-0 beating of Jim Norris this week. Bob Nixon, who is fourth is on the same 38 points as Randell but he has only played 14 games and could easily take over pole position with the games he has in hand.

Karl Attwood notched three maximums two in his 2-1 win over Tim Lowe and one in his 2-1 reversal at the hands of Rhys Duncan.

This coming Sunday Canley Sports and Social Club, Coventry is the setting for the regional finals of the BDO British Champions Cup. Six teams in both the men’s and women’s competition will be chasing a place in the finals. Lining up for both events will be teams representing Bedfordshire, Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire, Nottinghamshire, Warwickshire and West Midlands.

Registration will take place at 11.00am and teams will toe the oche at 12.00noon.

Ian McFarlane lost a little of his advantage as leader of the Brook Meadow Individual Double Top League this week as he went down 2-1 to Keith Kelly. Nevertheless he was quick to recover as he notched up a maximum in a 3-0 win against Clive Checketts to hold on to pole position with 79 points, four more than his nearest rival Mark Birch who kicked off his fixtures with a straight 3-0 verdict over Tony Comerford and then won a vital game against reigning champion Trevor Frost 2-1 in which he also recorded a 180. However, top of the 180’s this week was Ross Macken who chalked up two against Jake Smith as he roared to a 3-0 win.

Trevor Frost, Terry Clay and Jason Evans were other players to find the three treble twenties.

It’s still neck and neck at the top of group one in the Sheldon and District Summer League with leaders Brook Meadow beating Banbury Club 5-4 and Olton RBL, who are currently second having a 6-3 win at Shirley RBL. Both teams have 9 points from six games.

In group two Mackadown Social have lost the number one position after losing 5-3 at home to their nearest rivals Sheldon Dukes who have taken over pole position and are one point to the good on Macadown.

Group three’s Stechford Social are setting a hot pace with six consecutive wins, their latest being a 6-2 home win over Lea Hall Sports and Social Club. Old Bill and Bull are in second place, they finished all square at 4-4 with the Clock and are now four points adrift of the leaders. A similar position exists in group four Highwood ‘A’ have a 100% six win record and are four points ahead of Yardley Ex Colts in second place.

The situation in group’s five and six is much closer with Shard End Social and Kingshurst Labour Club locked together on nine points in group five and Highwood ‘B’ and Golden Acres are each on seven points in group six.

Smethwick Labour Club have had their lead halved to two points at the top of division one in the Harborne and District Summer League after suffering their first defeat of the season, a 5-4 reversal in their home tie with middle of the table Pheasant. Midland Red have taken over the number two spot after defeating Hillyfields ‘A’ 7-2. Hillyfields ‘A’ have now dropped to third place level on 12 points with the Reds.

Old Crown continue to impress in the second division a 5-4 win at Hillyfields ‘B’ stretching their 100% win record to six games and maintaining their two points lead over Bartley Green F.C. who won 6-3 at Pheasant Flights.

No change at the top of the two divisions of the Pip Club League, Globe Inn winning 5-3 at Sports Centre, Tamworth to keep their number one place in division one, five points ahead of Glascote Club, who do have a game in hand. Winning Post extended their advantage to six points in the second division with a 6-2 win at Two Gates Club.
