Week seven in the Olton Double Top League and it’s a really close fight for pole position between the top four players. Mark Wall is the current leader with 35 points from 16 games, but any one of the chasing three could overtake him. Second placed Andy Hutchings and third in the table Tony Randell are both only two points behind Wall with two games in hand. Bob Nixon is fourth and although he is six points adrift he has three games in hand on Hutchings and Randell and a massive five on Wall.

Randell was top of the hot shots this week with two maximums in his 2-1 win over Brian Edwards who also notched a 180. Other players to find the three treble twenties were Paul Higgins (2), Karl Atwood, Lance Thompson (2) and Mick Gorst.

Ian McFarlane has opened up a huge seven points lead at the top of the Brook Meadow Individual Double Top League. 2-1 wins against Mathew Gallet and Ross Macken has taken McFarlane’s total to 73 points, his nearest rival Mark Birch chalked up a 3-0 success over Jake Smith and followed that with a 2-1 win against Adam Gallett. Of late John Burdett has been in great form and steady climbed up the table to his current position of third. His games this week saw him beat Jason Evans 2- 1 and record two maximums in the process. He followed that with a 3-0 victory over Tony Comerford and included 4×100 and a 121 checkout.

Just three legs of average separate the top three teams in group one of the Sheldon and District Summer League. A 5-3 win against Shirley RBL puts Brook Meadow in the number one spot with Bromford Bridge Members Club, who beat Banbury Club again by 5-3 second on the same seven points and one leg behind. Olton RBL missed the chance of going top when they finished all square at 4-4 with Saltley Amateur Gardeners and also have seven points.

Group three’s Stechford Social stretched their unbeaten run to five games when they accounted for Pavilions with a 5-3 verdict and extended their lead over second placed Old Bill and Bull to three points as their rivals could only draw with Vaughans.

Another team with a 100% record is group four leaders Highwood ‘A’ who made it five straight wins when they beat Yardley Ex Colts 7-1.

Week 7 in the Harborne and District Summer League saw the top two teams in division one record 7-2 wins. Leaders Smethwick Labour Club won their home tie against Man on the Moon while second in the table Hillyfields ‘A’ won away at Woodgate Sports and Social Club to remain two points behind Smethwick. The Bell’s T.Cannon hit a maximum but it was not enough for his side to avoid a 6-3 home defeat at the hands of the Midland Red whose P.Watkins broke with 160. Quinborne’s S.Best also hit a 180 as his team beat the Pheasant 6-3.

In the second division Bartley Green F.C. had a comfortable 7-2 win at Avenue Social with P.Jevons recording a 160 break for the winners.

Winners from the first round of the league’s Cup Knockout were, Man on the Moon, Hillyfields ‘B’ and Old Crown, Hillyfields ’A’ and Quinton Members Club both had a bye.

Winner of the Small Heath League’s End of Season 501 Knockout was Chris Stokes from the Victoria 301 Club. Chris had a final victory over Potcheen Still representative John McCaffrey. Losing semi finalists were Matthew Cooper (Potcheen Still) and Peter Yardley (Emerald Club).
