Warwickshire’s latest fixture in division one of the Kaliber BDO Inter Counties Championships was a home tie against third in the table Surrey. Once again it was not a good weekend for the hosts as they both ladies and the men’s ’B’ side all lost for the second consecutive match. Trina Gulliver (30.06) and Wendy Adams (17.28) were the award winners for the respective ’A’ and ’B’ teams as both teams went down 4-2. Kevin Taylor (26.44) took the men’s ’B’ trophy as they finished on the wrong side of an 8-4 scoreline. The men’s ’A’ were the only winners of the weekend, a 7-5 win including Nigel Heydon’s (29.47) man of the match performance.

In division two West Midlands also had a home game taking on lowly Merseyside with an opportunity to open up a lead on the chasing pair Derbyshire and Norfolk. Unfortunately the best they could achieve was an 18-18 draw. Both ladies teams finished all square at 3-3 with Kath Jenkins (20.37) and Claire Ford (15.99) taking the ’A’ and ’B’ awards. The men’s ’B’ lost 8-4, their first defeat of the campaign with their top man Chris Plumpton averaging 24.92. The ’A’ side maintained the unbeaten seven match run winning 8-4 and taking the man of the match trophy for them was Jamie Hughes (28.36).

At the midway point of the Brook Meadow Individual Double Top League Trevor Frost, with 72 points has once more taken over the leadership. Week nine saw Frost beat Mark Elkin and third placed Jason Evans 2-1, while his nearest rival Ross Macken after beating Jay Murray 2-1 then slipped up and lost his game with Gordon Clinton by the same margin putting him on 70 points.

Fourth and Fifth placed Ian McFarlane and Mark Birch both have a game in hand on the leading trio, wins for them could see just an eight points gap between the top five.

The semi finals of the Coronation Shield and the first round of the Norman Day Cup were on the fixture card for the Four Oaks and District League. In the Coronation Shield there was a fascination tie between division one rivals, second placed Boldmere Sports and third placed and reigning division one champions Sportsmans Rest. The result was a 10-5 win for Sportsmans Rest who will now face current division one leaders Midland Red in the final after they defeated Old Oscott Arrows by the same 10-5 margin.

The Norman Day Cup saw Anvil Nomads go 7-2 down at Boot Flights, but they staged a magnificent fight back to snatch an 8-7 victory, Cross Keys PPA were also 8-7 winners at Hardy Spicer while Deer’s Leap beat Aston Social 9-6 and biggest winners of the round Hill Social took out Oscott Social with a 10-5 result.

C.Millward (Boot Flights) and K.Yates (Aston Social) both hit a maximum.

The quarter finals of the Sheldon and District Winter League’s Punch Bowl saw Premier Division leaders Saltley Amateur Gardeners hand out a 9-0 whitewash to Farringdon Flights. Shirley RBL and Brook Meadow in turn both won 6-3 against RAFA and Sheldon Dukes. Pavilions made the last four with a close 5-4 verdict over Yardley Ex Flights.

Winners in round one of the Sheldon Shield were Shard End RBL ‘B’, Mackadown Social, Hen and Chickens, Shard End RBL ‘A’, Lea Hall Sports and Social Nomads, Olton RBL, Glebe Farm Community Association and Shard End Social.
