The Four Oaks and District League had the semi finals of the Brian Goodman Cup and the first round of the Ken Rust Cup on their fixture card. In the Brian Goodman Cup Midland Red and Sportsmans Rest powered their way through to the final as they in turn beat Pint Pot 9-0 and Old Oscott Arrows 8-1. R.Hawker hit a 180 for the Red’s.

The Ken Rust Cup was a much closer affair with three of the four games ending with a 5-4 result. There were wins for Hill Social, Boot Flights and Hardy Spicer against respective opponents Deer’s Leap, Old Oscott WMC and Aston Social. In the local derby between Red Lion Flights and Red Lion Arrows the 6-3 verdict went in favour of Arrows.

The Small Heath League played their Doubles Knockout at four venues, winners going through to finals night on the 27th May are, Nigel Ricketts / John Young (Potcheen Still), Mark Kane / Brendan Lysaght (Mitre), Mark Wyatt / Ray Congrave, Ian McLean / Glen Thomas (Custard House), Chris Stokes / Mick O’Sullivan, Rob McConnell / Dennis Stokes (Victoria 301 Club), Eddie Bullock / Keith Devaney (Victoria Flights), Dave Ali / Clive Austin (Mitre).

Providing the biggest shock in the Brook Meadow Individual Double Top League this week was Keith Kelly.. Placed just below the halfway mark in the table Kelly took on reigning champion and current leader Trevor Frost and handed him a straight 3-0 defeat. This second defeat in 14 games has seen Frost drop to third in the table.

Ross Macken, who was level on points with Frost also lost, going down 2-1 to Mark Birch, but Macken hold on to his second spot. New leader is Jason Evans. Evans had a 2-1 win against Tony Comerford and then a 3-0 result over John Burdettt to give him a total of 59 points, two more than Macken and a three point’s lead on Frost.

In round two of the League Cup in the Harborne and District Winter League division one leaders Pheasant had a comfortable 7-2 win at Aveneu Social ’B’. Also winning 7-2 was third in the table Midland Red, the margin a little surprising when their opponents were second placed Smethwick Labour Club. Quinton Members Club beat Woodpecker 6-3 and Bartley Green F.C. had a by into the next round.

In round two of the Consolation Cup it was 6-3 wins for both Pheasant Flights and Quinborne at the expense of Avenue Social ‘A and New Inns.
