In the premier division of the Sheldon and District Winter League leaders Saltley Amateur Gardeners took on their nearest rivals Olton RBL and chalked up a vital 7-2 victory to give them a two point’s lead over their opponents. However, Olton have played one game fewer than Saltley but would require a massive 9-0 win in that fixture to draw level on average and share pole position.
The division one top team RAFA had a bye this week and second placed Iron Horse drew level on points with a close 5-4 win against Hen and Chickens, only average separates Willclare Sports and Social and Kingshurst Labour Club in division two, Willclare with the better average stay top following a 7-2 home win over Highwood, while Kingshurst had a 6-3 success over bottom of the table Bordesley Labour Club.

On the agenda for the Four Oaks and District League has been the Richard Winslow Pairs sponsored by Central Container Services. The event was staged at two venues, first Aston Social where in the semi’s A.Day and K.Day (Boldmere Sports) were beaten 2-0 by C.Millward and D.Jarvis jnr (Boot Flights) and in the all Midland Red affair between L.Harris and M.Harris, and G.Bushell and A.James, the former got the 2-0 verdict. verdict. The final saw C.Millward and D.Jarvis jnr win 2-1 against L.Harris and M.Harris.
At the Red Lion, A.Stainfield and J.Dunn (Sportsmamns Rest) beat S.Murray and T.O’Kereke (Cross Keys) 2-0 and with a similar result R.Hawker and M.Wild (Midland Red) took out T.Vickers and C.Vickers (Hill Social). In the final A.Stainfield and J.Dunn were the 2-1 winners.

In the Brook Meadow Individual Double Top League leader Trevor Frost took on fellow contender Ross Macken this week and after seven consecutive wins Frost lost his first of the campaign. Macken despite being out tonned got the vital 2-1 result and now with 33 points has moved to within one point of Frost. Both players then went on to record a 3-0 win, Frost against Ian McFarlane and Macken over Mark Elkin.
Mark Elkin and Ross Macken were the only players to hit a maximum this week.

A final reminder for the South Birmingham Open Darts Championship which will be staged this coming Saturday at Stirchley United WMC, Hazelwell Lane, Stirchley. The Pip Club League have played off their divisional singles knockouts. In division one the winner was M.Martin with I.Turner the runner up. Losing semi finalists were R.Snaith and P.Sweet.
T.Barrs took the division two title with a final success over R.Baker. Losing out in the last four were T.Beech and A.Duffy.

A recent home tie against Lincolnshire was a division one Kaliber BDO Inter Counties Championship fixture that Warwickshire were expected to win. However, it was not to be and the final scoreline was 24-15 to the visitors. Both the men’s ‘A’ and ‘B’ teams lost 7-5 and 8-4 respectively. The ladies ‘B’ had kicked off the weekends game with a fine 4-2 win, but that was the only joy of the encounter as the ‘A’ side finished on the wrong side of a 4-2 verdict. The result leaves Warwickshire on 98 points, 15 adrift of leaders County Durham and lying sixth in the table. Lincolnshire now on 79 points are two to the good on bottom of the table Buckinghamshire
Match awards went to Noel Grant (‘A’ 28.75), Dave Atkins (‘B’ 24.31), Trina Gulliver (‘A’ 28.90) and Clare Dicken (‘B’ 18.09).
