After three consecutive wins in division one of the Kaliber BDO Inter Counties Championships, Warwickshire were unable to round off the year with a 100% record. Playing away to Oxfordshire, Warwickshire finished on the wrong side of a 20-16 result, which sees their opponents leap frog them in the table and move into fourth place on 86 points, while Warwickshire are fifth three behind them. Only winners of the weekend were the men’s ’B’ who won 7-5 with Kevin Taylor (29.35) taking the match award. The ’A’ team game ended all square at 6-6, Nigel Heydon (29.47) their top man.

It was a disastrous fixture for the ladies as the ’A’ lost 4-2 and the ’B’ 5-1, Trina Gulliver (25.47) and Denise Burke (15.82) taking the respective match awards.

West Midlands, with two previous wins and a draw added another draw to their tally in their away game against Somerset. The Men’s ’A’ won 8-4 (Mark Jones 30.67), the ’B’ drew 6-6 (Chris Jones 26.01), while both ladies teams went down 4-2. For the fourth consecutive game Leanne Jennings (21.56) took the ’A’ tema award and with a 16.34 average Kim Fellows the ’B’.

League Cup preliminary rounds were on the fixture card for the Sheldon and District Winter League. In the premier division games Shard End RBL ’B’ were the biggest winners with a 7-2 result against Shard End Social. Brook Meadow beat Mackadown Social 6-3, while Saltley Gardeners won 5-4 against Sheldon Dukes.

In the division one fixtures Pavilions had a comfortable 7-2 win over Small Heath Gardeners, RAFA won 6-3 at home to Vaughans and their were close 5-4 wins for Hen and Chickens and Yardley Ex Flights.

Going into the hat for the next round in division two will be Custard House, Glebe Farm Community Association and Highwood.

Sportsmans Rest, reigning champions of the Four Oaks and District League had a somewhat shaky start to the current campaign but have recently got their act together and slowly made their way up the table that is until they met current leaders Midland Red in the last game of the first half of the season. Playing on the Red’s board the match contained no fewer than 39 scores of a ton or more, 22 going to the hosts and 17 to Sportsmans Rest. However, the amazing margin of defeat was 8-1, going to Midland Red to give them a total of 16 points, six more than Boldmere Sports, Boot Flights and Sportsmans Rest. L.Harris (Midland Red) hit a maximum and recorded an 8 darts leg, while team mate G.Bushell broke with 160.

In division two it was cup games. Despite a 100, 180 and an eight darts game from T.Gough, his team, Cross Keys went down 4-3 at Anvil Nomads. In the other game played Cross Keys PPA won 5-2 at Oscott Social.

In division one of the Harborne and District Winter League both of the top two teams, Pheasant and Smethwick Labour Club extended their 100% records. Pheasant won their home tie with Avenue Social ’B’ 7-2 to remain top of the table on average, while Smethwick, who also played at home beat Bartley Green F.C. 8-1.There were shocks all round in the second division as both Hillyfields and Pheasant Flights both lost their unbeaten record.

Hillyfields lost by 5-4 at Quinton Members Club Flights and Pheasant Flights went down 6-3 to New Inns. Woodpecker, are now the only team without a loss, they have played two and are top on average from both Hillyfields and Pheasant Flights.

Following their 5-4 win at the Emerald Club and a four points advantage over their rivals, Mitre look all set to retain their title in the Small Heath League. Darren Brown (Custard House) notched a 180 in his side’s 6-3 win over Potcheen Still.

Queens Head lost ground in the division one title race for the Pip Club League when they lost 5-3 at home to the Dolphin leaving them two points behind leaders Glascote Club who won 5-3 at home to Two Gates Club.

Division two leaders Wiggy 180 were held to a 4-4 draw by their nearest rivals Boot Inn and so remain four points clear.

The new Brook Meadow Individual League will be getting underway on the 8th January, but it is still not too late to book your place in what is the regions top individual league carrying a guaranteed first prize of £300.

A brief meeting is set for the league on Tuesday 18th December at the Brookmeadow, Old Forest Way, Shard End, at 8-00pm. The meeting will be followed by the Brookmeadow Christmas Knockout which is £5 to enter with all entries being paid out as prize money.
