On the agenda for the Four Oaks and District League this week was the first round of their Coronation Shield Doubles Cup. Biggest win of the round went to Sportsmans Rest and Midland Red who both had 13-2 wins against respective opponents Boot Flights and Hardy Spicer. Old Oscott WMC beat the Cross Keys PPA with a last gasp win in the final leg, R.Bennett and D.Fletcher throwing some super darts for Old Oscott.

Other teams to progress to round two are, Boldmere Sports who accounted for Hill Social with a 10-2 margin, Cross Keys who had a convincing 12-3 success at Deer’s Leap, Red Lion Flights won their home tie with Anvil Nomads 10-5 and Pint Pot had a close 8-7 verdict against Red Lion Arrows. Old Oscott Arrows had a bye.

Ross Macken did his title aspirations in the Brook Meadow Individual League no harm at all again this week when he beat Gordon Clinton 4-0. This latest win gives Macken a total of 141 points from 30 games and a nine point’s advantage over second in the table Jason Evans who has played 32 games, this week’s fixtures pairing him with his nearest rival Ian McFarlane. The tie ended all square at 2-2 and leaves McFarlane 14 points adrift of Evans but with five games in hand.

Reigning champion Trevor Frost currently lies in fifth position on 112 points however he has a massive seven games in hand on leader Macken and could amass a possible 42 points from those outstanding games.

In the premier division of the Sheldon and District Winter League Shard End RBL ‘B’ held on to pole position with a 7-2 win at Stechford Social. Second placed Saltley Amateur Gardeners keep the pressure on the leaders with an 8-1 victory over Shard End Social and remain two points behind with a game in hand. Reigning champions Olton RBL are in a similar position to Saltley, their 6-3 win at Shirley RBL leaving them two points adrift and having played one game less.

In division one Hobs Meadow Stretched their unbeaten run to five games with a close 5-4 verdict at third in the table Yardley Ex Colts and now have a two points lead over the rest of the field with a game in hand.

A 7-2 home win against Golden Acres puts Glebe Community Association top of the second division, however, they need to keep an eye over their shoulder as Willclare Sports and Social, who beat Barley Mow 7-2 are level on points and have played one game fewer.

On the individual scene D.Marshall hit a maximum and team mate M.Noonan recorded a 160 break for Mackadown Social, while Willclare’s J.Allen also notched a 180.

The league will be staging the first round of their Punch Bowl tomorrow evening.

Both John McCaffrey and John Young hit maximums for the Potcheen Still in the Small Heath League to help their team to a close 5-4 home win over high riding Victoria 301 Club. The 301 club remain in second place but are now two points behind leaders and reigning champions Mitre who beat Wagon and Horses 7-2. Emerald Club were unable to take advantage of the 301 club’s defeat as they also lost, beaten 7-2 by the Custard House and are on the same eight points as the 301 club.

The pip Club League had the division two cup on their fixture card and in round one there were wins for Wigginton, Boot Inn and Wiggy 180 against respective opponents Winning Post, Royal Oak (Kingsbury) and Red Lion (Polesworth). Red Lion ‘B’ had a bye. Round two saw Wigginton account for Boot Inn and Wiggy 180 set up an all Wigginton final with a victory over Red Lion ‘B’. Tomorrow evening the Glascote Club will host the division one cup, the draw for the first round is Three Horse shoes v Globe Inn, Queens Head v Dolphin, Glascote Club v Snooker Club, Two Gates Club v Red Lon ’A’.
