The Sheldon and District Summer league have been engaged with the play off of round one of their Mrs F.Richman Trophy. Biggest winners of the round were group one side Saltley Amateur Gardeners who beat group four’s Old Bill and Bull 7-0. Not far behind were Brook Meadow (group one) and Shirley RBL (group three) who in turn defeated RAFA (group two) and Shard End RBL ’A’ (group three).
Other surprise results were, Sheldon Dukes (group 2) beat Shard End RBL ’B’ (group 1), Small Heath Amateur Gardeners (group 6) beat Golden Acres (group 5) and group four’s Farringdon Social took out Sheldon Social from group five.
The draw for round two, which is to be played on Thursday 9th August is Hen and Chickens v Brook Meadow, Yardley Ex Colts v Sheldon Dukes, Bromford Bridge members Club v Hobs Meadow, Castle Vale Residents Association v Sedgemere Flights, Banbury Club v Mackadown Social, Olton RBL v Saltley Amateur Gardeners, Small Heath Amateur Gardeners v Shirley RBL, Farringdon Social Pavilions.

Is anyone going to stop the Mitre in the Small Heath League. Mitre have now gone thirteen games into the new season without defeat, their latest victims being their nearest rivals the Custard House, who on their home board lost 6-3 to the table toppers. Mitre now have an eight points buffer over Custard House who are on 18 points. Victoria 301 Club also have 18 points, but they like Custard House lost this week, they went down 5-4 at home to Wagon and Horses.

Trevor Frost, reigning champion of the Brook Meadow Individual League looks intent on holding on to his crown after kicking off the new season with eight consecutive wins to give him a total of 43 points, six more than Ross Macken who is currently second in the table.
This week Frost enjoyed two 3-1 wins against Matthew Gallett and Keith Kelly followed by a straight 4-0 victory over Terry Blakemore. Macken meanwhile had 3-1 successes in his games with Ian McFarlane and Keith Kelly.
Numerous three figure scores in the latest round of games but only four maximums and they were supplied by just two players, the top two players Trevor Frost and Ross Macken, who both hit two each.

A total of 175 took part in the recent Midlands Open staged at Canley Sports and Social Club, Coventry. The final was a battle of the Andy’s, a contest between Andy Smith and Andy Hamilton. Smith took a 2-0 lead before Hamilton stepped up the gas and produced winning legs of 14, 15, 15, 14 and a final winning leg of 13 darts to clinch the top prize of £1000.
Losing semi finalists were Warwickshire’s Tom Aldridge and Worcestershire’s Tony Randall.
Saturday’s Coventry Open attracted a total of 155 entrants was won by local Warwickshire player Kevin Dowling. Kevin wrapped up the title with a final 5-4 victory over Staffordshire’s Andy Beardmore. Kevin’s winning legs were 17, 18, 18, 21 and 26 darts.
In the semi finals Dowling beat Ricky Frisby 4-1 and Beardmore had a close 4-3 success against Nigel Heydon.
