Bromford Members Club and Saltley Amateur Gardeners are the only two remaining teams in group one of the Sheldon and District Summer League able to boast a 100% record after playing just two fixtures. Trevor Frost helped Bromford to a 5-3 home win over Shard End RBL ‘B’, while Saltley in their home tie with Mackadown Social won by the same margin, T.Kelly hitting a 180 for Mackadown. In the other group one game Olton RBL and Brook Meadow finished all square at four each with Keith Kelly scoring a maximum for the latter.

RAFA are the only team to have won both of their opening two fixtures in group two, the latest being a 5-3 win at the Hen and Chickens.

Biggest win of the week was 7-1 which was recorded by group four’s Vaughans who beat Kinghurst Labour Club and Highwood in group six against Bordesley Labour Club.

Just as the Sheldon and District Summer League gets underway the winter league are already preparing for their forthcoming season. To date the league have accepted a total of 33 entries and are on the lookout for another three teams to join them. Mitre have extended their undefeated winning run to eleven games in the Small Heath League and as a result opened up a four points advantage over their nearest rivals Victoria 301 Club.

In their most recent game Mitre travelled to take on Wagon and Horses, returning with an emphatic 8-1 result. Victoria 301 Club had a home tie against Emerald Club, which they won 6-3. The battle of the Victoria’s, which also brought together the bottom two teams, saw Victoria Flights beat the Victoria 5-4 to leave the latter firmly rooted at the foot of the table without a win so far.

Congratulations to the White Hart, Swindon who have won not only the men’s but also the ladies prestigious Bedworth Gateway Open competitions. In the men’s event they won the final against the Volunteer from Peterborough 4-2, while the ladies lifted the crown with a close 4-3 verdict over the Air Balloon from Bristol. This is the first time in the long history of the competition that the same pub or club have provided the men’s and women’s champions.
