With only a couple of fixtures remaining the George extended their undefeated run in division one of the Harborne and District Winter league to sixteen games when they won 6-1 at New Inns. Hillyfields, second to the George, but a massive eight points adrift, had a 4-3 win at Quinborne Flights. Raven’s P.Hewitt had a 160 break in his side’s 6-1 defeat of W.C.WMC.

It’s tight at the top of division two, with any one of the top five teams in contention for the title. Cock Inn and Pheasant both have 24 points from 16 games, while Coopers Arms, Avenue Social and Harborne Stores are all on 22 points, with Coopers having two games in hand on the leading pair and Stores one game in hand.

The league will be staging their Craig Beesley Memorial Trophy on Friday 23rd April at the Raven starting at 8.00pm.

The Harborne and District Summer league will be holding their AGM this coming Sunday at the league headquarters, Hillyfields. It was Saltley Amateur Gardeners who won the battle of the top two in the premier division of the Sheldon and District Winter league. Playing at home the Gardeners won 4-3. There was also disappointment for third place Fordbridge Social who also went down 4-3 in their fixture at the Malt Shovel. Three Horse Shoes recorded a convincing 8-1 win against RAFA, with D.Young producing a tremendous maximum outshot of 170.

In the first division Glebe Community Centre lost ground in the title race as they finished on the wrong side of a 7-2 scoreline at home to Hen and Chickens, while leaders Sheldon Social won 5-4 against the Raven.

Warwickshire will line up again this coming weekend for the latest of their premier division BDO Inter Counties Championship fixture, an away game against Lancashire at Morecombe. Heartlands Club have had to withdraw from the Small Heath Winter league due to the fact that they are unable to field a full side. Having progressed to the semi finals of the league’s Knockout Cup, they had to forfeit their game and give the Antelope a walk over into the final. In the final Antelope will now face Victoria 301 Club, who beat McVeighs 6-3 in the last four.

The summer league is about to get underway at the end of May and the league is on the lookout for teams, both old and new to join them. The AGM will take place on the 18th April at the Custard House, Blake Lane, Bordesley Green. The Longwood league have been busy with their Ladies Singles Knockout. Lifting the crown was Dawn Hanslow, who had a final victory over Helen Beech. Losing semi finalists were Janet Starling and Sharon Johnson.
