Raven began the new season in division one of the Harborne and District Summer League with a 6-3 home win over Hillyfields, while in division two Cock Inn were the top scorers with a 7-3 success against the Punchbowl, with Avenue Social and Travellers Rest not far behind with 6-3 verdicts over respective opponents Hobsons Choice and the Pheasant.

In division three Bartley Green Social Flights had a good start to the campaign beating Greenlands Social 7-2, Harborne Stores getting the close 5-4 verdict over W.C.WMC.

Top of the table Gate Inn dropped a point in division one of the Longwood league, when they only managed a 4-4 draw in their home tie with second placed Red Lion ’A’. Third in the table White Lion also finished all square in their away game with Red Lion ’B’.

Plough and Harrow head the second division, a crushing 8-0 victory over Jolly Sailor consolidating their position. One point behind the leaders is Two Gates Club who had a comfortable 6-2 win at the Kettlebrook.

Winners of this seasons Small Heath League Mixed Doubles title are Sue Hanlon and Colin Wyatt from the Gunmakers. The winning duo accounted for their team mates Vicky Hanlon and Brian Hobby in the final. Amazingly the Gunmakers also provided both sets of losing semi finalists, Donna Wheeler and Brett Wheeler, and Gillian Holmes and Terry Webster

Entries are being accepted for the Canley Sports and Social Darts Open, which will be staged on Saturday 17th May at the club in Marler Road, Canley, Coventry, CV4 8BU. For an entry fee of £5 (£7 on the day) there is a guaranteed first prize of £500 and runner’s up of £200. Cheques should be made payable to Canley Sports and Social Club and posted to the club. The Aston Summer League will holding their AGM at the King Edward, Lichfield Road, Aston this coming Sunday at 11.00am. All teams interested in joining the league for the forthcoming season should be represented at this meeting. It is anticipated that the new season will get underway towards the end of May.

With a 156 break and a nine darts game, D.Davenport helped his team, E57 to a 5-2 win over Tascos Social in division two of the South West Birmingham Clubs Summer League.

Some sad news received this week, Phil Sweet, a member of the Queens ’A’ side in the Longwood League, passed away on the 19th April. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
