For the third successive fixture neither, Warwickshire or West Midlands were able to record a win in the BDO Inter Counties Championships. Both teams had away fixtures, Warwickshire taking on their premier opponents Cambridgeshire at the local United Services Club and fell to their heaviest defeat of the campaign 28-11.

Both the ’A’ and ’B’ men’s sides lost, 10-2 and 8-4 respectively, with Scott Mitton (28.71) and Martin Brown (24.33) taking the match awards.

The ladies ’A’ provided the best result of the match a 3-3 draw, Trina Gulliver their top player with a magnificent 30.81 average. Denise Burke (17.08) took the ’B’ teams award as they went down 4-2.

West Midlands suffered a 22-17 defeat against Northamptonshire, the men’s ’A’ won 7-5, while the ’B’ lost their 100% win record finishing all square at six each. The ladies ’A’ lost 5-1 and the ’B’ earned a 3-3 draw. Taking the teams awards were Ian Jones (28.98), Viv Gould (27.33) and Gill Cook, who with averages of 15.80 and 15.49 took both the ’A’ and ’B’ awards.

The final of the Forest of Arden Winter League’s Presidents Cup will be an all Highwood affair. In the semi finals league leaders Highwood Arrows accounted for Sheldon Heath Social Flights with a 6-3 verdict, while the Highwood beat the Glades 7-2.

In the preliminary round of the Consolation Cup Harvester had a comfortable 8-1 victory over Mackadown Social, Hobs Meadow join Harvester in the next round after their 5-4 success against Stechford Social

As a result of his 2-1 win over Derek Mountjoy and 3-0 success against Dawn Barnes, John Green has extended his lead at the top of the Belgrave Social Individual league to eight points. Green’s nearest rival is Mick Smith who has 98 points, with two games in hand. Two further points adrift is Robert Mills in third place. A man who could be making a late challenge for the title is Mark Hollyoake. Despite currently lying in eleventh position and 22 points behind, Hollyoake has a massive seven games in hand on Green and could raise a total of 35 points from those games, so watch this space.

Hitting maximums this week are, Lance Thompson, Steve Cain, Adam Duffy, Derek Fardon (2), Colin Farrington, Jim Williams (2) and Derek Mountjoy.

The quarter finals of the Punchbowl and round one of the Sheldon Shield have been on the Sheldon and District Winter League’s agenda, first the Punchbowl. Making their way into the semi finals are Iron Horse, Three Horse Shoes, Solihull Borough F.C. and the Malt Shovel.

E.Bullock (Dovecote) hit a 180 as his side moved into round two of the Sheldon Shield with a 6-3 win over Yardley Ex Service Club. Lea Hall Sports and Social player T.Healy also notched a maximum but his team went out of the competition when they lost 5-4 to Hobs Meadow. Other teams to progress to the second round are Shard End Social, Fordbridge Social, Castle Vale Residents Association, Shannons, Raven and Horseshoes.
