A home tie against Glamorgan in the Premier Division of the BDO Inter Counties Championship saw Warwickshire chalk up their third win of the campaign. Playing at the Belgrave Sports and Social Club, Tamworth, the weekend did not get off to a good start. The women’s ‘B’ ended up on the wrong side of a 4-2 result with Denise Jones (17.37 lady of the match) and Sue Deery the only winners. The men’s ‘B’ also suffered a similar fate, going down 8-4, still seeking their first win after six of their nine fixtures have been played. Taking the match award was David Harris (29.82).
Sunday saw a complete turnaround. The ladies recorded their first 6-0 whitewash of the season thanks to Pat Thornton, Debbie McPherson, Caroline Pike, Trina Gulliver (who yet again was the top lady with a 27.58 average), Julie Dwyer and Lesley Newcombe. Colin Fowler (29.51) was the men’s star as he helped them to a great 7-5 success to make it four consecutive wins and in the process an overall 19-17 victory to keep Warwickshire in the top alf of the table.
