Warwickshire’s journey north to take on Yorkshire in the premier division of the BDO Inter Counties Championship was rewarded with a share of the points. There were mixed fortunes in Saturday’s games as the women won 4-2 (lady of the match Pat Thornton 22.37) and the men went down 9-3 with Mick Bagley their top man recording a super 31.11 average.

The women’s ‘A’ had a similar 4-2 victory as their ‘B’ side. Inevitably the lady of the match was Trina Gulliver with a great 27.83 average, making it an amazing fourteen consecutive match awards for the England International. The men made it three wins in a row with their 7-5 win. Taking the honours for the ‘A’ side for a second successive game was Tony Brown (28.47).

West Midlands tale of woe continues as they lost their fourth fixture of the season, their only other result being a draw with Suffolk, both ladies teams finished on the wrong side of 5-1 results. Ann Jones (15.82) the ‘B’ teams only winner and Gill Cook (17.16) gaining the same distinction for the ‘A’.

Roger Kinsella (28.49) was the top man in the ‘B’ teams 9-3 win while Ian Jones, with a 30.61 average took the ‘A’ team’s award.

Lickey Banker, leaders of the premier division of the Harborne and District Winter League grabbed a close 5-4 win in their home tie with Hillyfields, who were only able to field eight players. The top two teams in division one, Harborne Stores ‘A’ and Highlander both scored 5-4 wins against respective opponents Hobsons Choice and Avenue Social, C.Walsh having a 160 break for Stores.

Village Stump, second in division two chalked up a comfortable 7-2 success in their home game with Stonehouse Flights.

Hobs Meadow continue to lead the field in the Forest of Arden Winter League, their latest victory a 6-3 success against Stechford Social. Second placed Silver Wings bounced back from their 6-3 defeat against Hobs with a similar result over this week’s opponents Poachers Pocket. Highwood were the top scores, beating Cocks and Hens 8-1, while Red Arrows were not far behind with their 7-2 win over the Harvester. J.Zimmerman (Hobs Meadow Mixes) was this week’s top scorer with a 174 in his side’s 6-3 win at Warwick Aero.

7-2 was a popular result in the Four Oaks and District Winter League as Midland Red, Old Oscott WMC, S.S.MAry and Johns and Safe Harbour all won by that margin playing in turn against Electric Arrows, Bromford Social, Drakes Drum and Kings Arms. The remaining fixtures all finished 5-4 with Boldmere Settlers, Anvil Nomads, Boldmere Mixed and Mile Oak the winners.

There was a top of the table clash in the Small Heath Winter League with leaders Custard House taking on second placed Black Horse, the result a close 5-4 verdict for Custard House giving them a total of 12 points and opening up a four points lead over their rivals.

In the league’s semi finals of the Upside Down Cup both games finished 7-2, Saltley Flights and Custard House accounting for the Nest and Red Hill.

The two top teams in division one of the Longwood Winter League, Dolphin and Three Horse Shoes both recorded 6-2 wins against respective opponents Red Lion ‘A’ (Polesworth) and the Queens Head. Third placed Three Tuns lost ground in the title race when they unexpectedly lost 6-2 to Pip Club, who were previously without a win. In the second division Wilnecote kept up their 100% winning record with a 5-3 success at Cue Sports.Two Gates Club and Railway are both two points adrift of the leaders.
