Local counties Warwickshire and West Midlands have been involved in the BDO British Champions Cup which was staged at the former’s headquarters the Belgrave Sports and Social Club, Tamworth. In the men’s competition the two counties battled their way through to the final where they played each other. Wins from Ian Murdock, Steve Cain, Colin Fowler and Carl Betteridge ensured a 4-3 victory for Warwickshire. Winners for the West Midlands were Dave Robbins, Dave Pritchard and Steve Parkes. Warwickshire now go forward to the grand finals at Trentham Gardens, Stoke on Trent on Sunday 5th November.
West Midlands made their exit in the ladies event in the last four where they were beaten 5-2 by Cambridgeshire. Warwickshire once again made the final but narrowly lost out 4-3 to Cambridgeshire. Wins by Sue Deery, Carol Weston and Jane Coffman were not quite enough as D.Greatbach, B.Gostling, S.Greatbach and S.Edwards put Cambridge into the finals.
