In division one of the BDO Inter County Championships, Warwickshire, in the penultimate encounter, a home tie against local rivals Staffordshire, suffered their first defeat of the campaign. Warwickshire’s 17-22 reversal could not have been against worse opposition as Staffordshire are leading the field in the fight for promotion.
The men’s ‘A’ maintained their 100% record with an 8-4 success, Colin Fowler (29.82), for the second successive fixture taking the match award. The ‘B’ side went down 7-5 after holding their counterparts to an all square position at the halfway stage. Gary Podmore (27.44) took the man of the match trophy in the final game.
The ladies ‘A’ remain unbeaten, but had to come back from 2-0 and 3-2 down to earn a share of the points. Trina Gulliver, at number three started the first fight back, Trina making it an amazing eight consecutive match awards, twelve in thirteen outings, with her fantastic 27.83 average, Tammy Montgomery the last person, other than Trina to win the ‘A’ teams award and that was exactly one year ago away to Middlesex.
Linda Butler (14.37) was not only the ‘B’ side’s lady of the match but also the team’s only winner as they lost 5-1
