With only two fixtures remaining in the BDO Inter County Championship, Warwickshire, in division one, stretched their unbeaten run to seven games when they travelled south to take on Surrey, returning with a 25-14 victory.
Trina Gulliver (23.49) made it seven match awards in as many outings this season helping her ‘A’ team mates to a 3-3 draw after trailing 2-0 at one stage. Cheryl Jackson and Julie Liddell were the other two winners. The ‘B’ side also finished all square thanks to Sue Deery, Denise Jones and lady of the match Pat Thornton (16.75).
The men’s ‘A’ continued their superb season, Colin Fowler (31.22) the top man in their 9-3 success, making it seven consecutive wins with only two to play. Also on the mark for the ‘A’ side were Peter Brotherton, Alan Sharratt, Kevin Dowling, Steve Hine, Pat Koyce, Steve Dwyer, Andy Smith and Peter Rouse.
The ‘B’ team after losing the opening three games bounced back with wins from Carl Betteridge, Gary Podmore, Andy Mountford (man of the match 3.67), Barry Stephens, Trevor Frost and Steve Cain, but had to wait until the final game before clinching a 7-5 win, Dave Clarke the man who got that vital win.
The overall score 25-14 to Warwickshire. The penultimate game of the season is on the 15th and 16th April at home to Staffordshire. This fixture could well decide who wins the promotional title.
