This coming weekend West Midlands will be making the short journey to the D.D. Sports and Social Club, Stourbridge Road, Bromsgrove, where they will take on Worcestershire in this, their fifth fixture of the season in division two of the BDO inter Counties Championships.

With both teams dangerously close to the foot of the table, this is a vital match for both sides and a win for either could, at the end of the season, be the difference between survival and relegation. In the Forest of Arden Winter League Stechford Social fell to their second successive defeat when they lost 6-3 at home to Cocks and Hens. One time league leaders Stechford have now dropped to third. Current leaders Red Arrows had a narrow 5-4 win over Hobs Meadow Mixes while second placed Hobs Meadow had a more comfortable 6-3 victory against Silver Wings whose C.Busby chalked up an eight darts leg/

It was league cup quarter finals in the Sheldon and District Winter League. In the premier J.Randell (Sheldon Heath Social) hit a maximum, that however, was the only highlight for his team as they went down 7-2 at St Annes. Fordbridge Social were 6-3 winners against Saltley Amateur Gardeners while Sheldon Heath Social Dukes and Stechford Social both had 5-4 wins over EBAHA and Olton RBL respectively.

In division two apart from a 9-0 walkover for Kingshurst Labour Club against Great Western the other teams Silver Wings, Iron Horse and Mackadown Social all had 5-4 wins at the expense of British Telecom Club, Lea Hall Legion and Chelmsley RBL.

R.Goldbey’s (Malt Shovel) maximum helped his team to a 7-2 win over Glebe Community Centre in the second division. Joining them in the next round will be the Spitfire with a 180 from K.Kelly, Dovecote and Small Heath Gardeners. M.Kenny (Banbury Club) was another player to hit the three treble twenties as his team lost 5-4 to third division opponents Millhouse. Rooster Arrows, Lyndon Arrows and Hay Mills Social were also 5-4 winners.

In the Bass Breweries and Bristan Ltd sponsored Minworth Double Top League there were 180’s for M.Franks, C.Farrington and W.Chinn. The first two players had 2-1 wins in turn over C.Packer and P.Burnham while Chinn went down by the same scoreline to M.Elkin. P.Spiers was in top form in his game with T.Ryland. Winning 3-0, Spiers hit 180,140 and 3×100. In addition to this he also recorded a 13 darts leg.

There were good wins for Bedworth Bank’s and Birmingham Midland Red in the Warwickshire Men’s Super League. Both teams chalked up 6-2 wins as they accounted for Coventry Potters Green and Kingstanding. The other fixtures between Coventry Bishopsgate / Tamworth and Rugby / Warwick Town finished all square at 4-4.
