Week ten of the Bass Breweries and Bristan Ltd sponsored Minworth Double Top League produced a top of the league clash between leader Alan Mayell and fifth placed Dean Grainger. Mayell with 2×140,137 and 3×100 was in magnificent form and although his opponent replied with 5×100 the close 2-1 verdict went in Mayell’s favour. Mayell has now completed 20 fixtures from which he has amassed 80 points, ten more than his nearest rival Alan Grainger, who in his latest encounter took on and beat Gordon Clinton 2-1. In his win Grainger hit 5×100 plus a maximum to Clinton’s 140,110 and 100. Although Grainger has played two fewer games than Mayell ten points is a lot to fetch back.

Paul Burnham and Tony Pedley are third and fourth respectively with 66 points. Burnham had a comfortable straight legs 3-0 victory over Tim Ryland, but in contrast Pedley found himself on the wrong side of a 2-1 scoreline against Paul Spiers.
