Midland Red, reigning premier division champions of the Harborne and District Winter League, had a walkover against the Beeches and were awarded a 5-4 win. A tremendous fight back by Greenlands saw them chalk up a 6-3 win over Bartley Green Social Club who at one stage had a 3-1 lead. Ladywood Social were also 6-3 winners in their encounter at the Raven.

In division one Hillyfields ‘B’ players B.Brand and T.Heath both notched a maximum. However, their team finished on the wrong side of an 8-1 scoreline in the local derby game with Hillyfields ‘A’.

It was not a ladies night in division two as Raven Ladies went down 7-2 at the Village Stump and Highlander Ladies lost against Highlander 8-1.

There was a top of the table battle in the Acocks Green Summer League with second placed Tyseley WMC taking on leaders Shirley Legion. Playing on their home board Tyseley took full advantage to chalk up a very important 6-3 victory to bring them level on 24 points with Shirley, however, Shirley do have the advantage of a game in hand. Britannia Arrows won 6-3 at the Robin Hood, while there were 5-4 victories for Brewers Arms and Langley Hall against respective opponents Journeys End and Plume of Feathers.

The league’s singles knockout was staged at Shirley Legion with an encouraging 41entries. The final was a close affair with John O’Sullivan (Shirley Legion) just edging out his team mate Amur Parvez 2-1. In the deciding leg O’Sullivan got his nose in front with a tremendous 152 break.

In the semi’s O’Sullivan took out Brewers Arms Jim Leadbitter while Parvez, a previous winner of the event, accounted for Tyseley’s Ian Spencer, who a couple of seasons ago won not only the summer singles title but also the winter one.
