Congratulations go to Midland Red who snatched a close 5-4 result against Bell Inn in the final of the Wadsworth Cup in the Harborne and District Winter League. Although Bell lost, it was their player, M.James who was declared man of the match. Jmaes was in outstanding form and recorded a tremendous nine darts game.

The Wadsworth Consolation Cup final also finished 5-4 with Red Lion taking the honours against the Brook, again a very fiercely fought contest.

In division one of the Harborne 401 Summer League leaders Bell Inn continued their winning run with a convincing 7-2 victory at home to the Plough. Disputing second spot are Bartley Green Social Club and Stonehouse Stars. In the latest round of fixtures the two teams met on Bartley’s board. Despite a 180 by Star’s K.Redding the 6-3 verdict went in favour of the hosts. J.Meredith, (Red Lion) was another player to notch a maximum in his teams 7-2 success at Ladywood Social whose M.Littleford also hit 180 and checked out with a superb 167 finish.

Travellers Rest were division two’s biggest winners, beating Green Man 7-2, while in division three Bugle Horn had an 8-1 win against Stonehouse Ladies. In the same division Bear and Staff went down 5-4 at home to Beeches with L.Scullion chalking up a 160 break for the winners.

Biggest win in the Sheldon and District Summer League this week went to group two’s Iron Horse who won 7-1 at the Chestnuts. However, the top individual scores went to players in even lower groups. C.Busby (Silver Wings) hit a 180 as his team defeated Dovecote 5-3 in group four and in group six Lea Hall Mixed player K.Collins helped his team to a 4-4 draw with Mill House by hitting a similar three treble twenties.

Following their opening win over Hobs Meadow in division ‘A’ of the Forest of Arden Summer League, Hobs Meadow Mixes lost 6-4 at home to the Highwood. Hobs Meadow meanwhile finished all square, 5-5, at the Harvester. Silver Wings gained sweet revenge beating Mackadown Social 7-2, after losing 8-1 to the same team in the winter league.

League newcomers Cocks and Hens came back down to earth as they, after winning 7-3 at the Fordbridge Social last week, went down at home 6-4 to Heart of England ‘A’ in division ‘B’.

Joyce Webster continues her defense of the Birmingham Ladies Double Top Ladies League, her latest matches seeing her win 2-1 against Phyliss Larden and then 3-0 against Kay Chambers. The nearest rivals to Joyce, Janet Dudley and Angie Bourne had similar wins. Janet beat Jean Cotton 2-1 and Marion Walker 3-0, Angie with a 3-0 score accounted for Mo Doherty and then Phyliss Larden 2-1.

Selly Park, with a 16-5 win against Perry Barr, have now opened up a 28 points advantage over their nearest rivals Northfield and Sheldon who are both on 98 points. Once more Lesley Newcombe was the star for Selly Park hitting an amazing 8×100 plus 123. Northfield now have to be content with sharing second place after going down 12-9 to Handsworth while Sheldon drew level with a 14-7 victory over Ward End.
