The Bell Inn maintained their high scoring rate in division one of the Harborne 401 Summer League with an 8-1 victory over the Hillyfields. P.Hudson (Plough) hit a maximum in his teams encounter at the Red Lion, the 6-3 result, however went in favour of the hosts.
In division two B.Godwin (Travellers Rest) was another player to notch a 180 in his side’s 6-3 success against Bartley Green Social Flights. Greenlands had a convincing 8-1 win at the Golden Cup.
Raven Ladies were on song in the third division beating Bear and Staff 5-4, not so Highlander Ladies as they went down 9-0 at the Beeches. Bugle Horn were in fine form winning 7-2 at Harborne Stores.

It was not a happy end to the season for our local counties in the BDO Inter Counties Championships. Firstly Warwickshire, who were playing away to Middlesex. Saturdays games went in the home teams favour, winning the ladies match 4-2 and the men’s 7-5, Sue Deery (18.24) and Gary Podmore (31.31) taking the respective match awards.
The results were better the following day. The ladies began with a 3-3 draw, Tammy Montgomery producing a creditable 24.46 average for her lady of the match award. The men followed up with a 7-5 victory, their top player being Pat Koyce who averaged 30.06.
The overall 19-17 win by Middlesex was enough to retain their premiership status, however Warwickshire join neighbouring Staffordshire in the drop to division one next season.

West Midlands played a home tie against Norfolk and strangely their results were almost identical to Warwickshire’s. On Saturday the ladies lost by 5-1 as opposed to 4-2 but after that the results were exactly the same. Gill Cook (15.38) was the ‘B’ team’s lady of the match, while Diane Tolley took the ‘A’ team’s award with a 24.03 average. The men’s ‘B’ award went to Steve Brindley (28.90) and Dave Robbins (28.49) took the ‘A’s.
Unlike Warwickshire, despite losing 20-16, West Midlands retained their position in division two, Humberside separating them from the two bottom teams, Oxfordshire and Leicestershire.

With joint leader Jeanette James not playing this week in the Birmingham Ladies Double Top League, reigning champion Joyce Webster took full advantage and has moved into pole position. In match 9 Joyce gained an important 2-1 victory over third placed Julie James and followed that with a similar success in a high scoring affair with Angie Bourne. Lucy Hart lost her game against Janet Dudley 3-0 but then reversed the scoreline in her encounter with Marie Glasgow.

There were good wins for Saltley Flights and Sheldon Flights in the Small Heath Summer League, both teams winning 7-2 against respective opponents Hay Mills and Red Hill..

Congratulations go to Smiths Wood Snooker Club pairing F.Keye and B.Cowie who have won the Sheldon and District Winter League Doubles title. The successful duo had won all of their rounds to the final by 2-1. But then in the final, where they took on Silver Wings representatives K.Fisher and C.Busby, they won 2-0
Top individual performances came from N.McCrave who hit a maximum in the first round and K.Fisher who recorded a 160 break in the quarter finals.
