Best win in the Premier division of the Harborne and District Winter League was supplied by Midland Red who defeated Londonderry 8-1. Leaders Wernley recorded a close 5-4 win at the Raven thanks to a 160 break by J.Cannon.

In division one Bartley Green Social Club took another step towards the title with a 7-2 home win against the Brook. Kings Highway had a 6-3 win over Hillyfields ‘B’ while Beeches and the Plough both won 5-4 against respective opponents Avenue Social and Weoley Castle.

Highlander, second in the division two table had an impressive 7-2 win against the Vine.

Bob Anderson put his talents on display at the Hillyfields, I.Jacques being the only player to defeat him. However the knockout tournament was won by Sue Mulliss.

There was little joy for our local counties in the BDO Inter Counties Championship as both Warwickshire and West Midlands went down 19-17. Warwickshire travelled south to take on Cambridgeshire. Saturdays games opened up with a 5-1 defeat for the ladies, Caroline Pike (17.89) the only winner. The men however, recorded their second consecutive 8-4 victory, Trevor Frost their top man with a 28.51 average.

Sundays fixtures began like Saturdays, the ladies again going down by 5-1. Trina Gulliver was the winner on this occasion with a very impressive 26.37 average. Once more the men’s team came up trumps winning 7-5, but it was not enough to avoid an overall defeat. Geoff Wylie (28.35) was the ‘A’ teams man of the match.

West Midlands played hosts to Berkshire. Their weekend got off to a good start as the ladies chalked up their first win of the campaign, a 4-2 success with Angie Perry (20.88) the award winner. The men made it two back to back 6-6 draws, Jonathan Platt’s 25.10 average the best of the day.

The ladies ‘A’, for the second consecutive match lost 5-1, Dawn Holdcroft the only winner and only choice for the match award with her 21.17 average. The men’s ‘A’, similar to the ‘B’ finished all square at six each, Tom Aldridge taking the match award with a 28.90 average, the fourth such award in seven outings.

In the premier division of the Sheldon and District Winter League, St Annes roared to a crushing 9-0 victory over Stechford Social, while in division one M.Turner (Kingshurst Labour) was in top form with scores of 100,140 a finsh of 100, plus a nine darts game, as his team won 6-3. That was the popular scoreline in division two as Kierans, Lyndon Arms and Yardley Ex Colts all won 6-3 against Dovecote, Lyndon Arrows and Silver Wings.

The last sixteen players in the league’s singles knockout are R.Crawford,A.Meades (Lea Hall RBL), C.Hall (Three Horse Shoes), T.Price (Harvester), A.Hutchings, B.Vines (Olton RBL), P.Randell, T.Randell (Sheldon Heath Social), D.Farndon, P.Blizzard (Lyndon Arms), D.Kirwan, G.Clarke (Shard End Social), M.Hicks (Sheldon Heath Social Dukes), M.Birch (EBAHA), T.Whitehouse (Bradford Arms), C.Martin (Staff Social). Finals night will be staged at Lea Hall RBL on 15 April.
