Biggest upset of the week in the Harborne and District Winter League was the defeat of Bartley green Social Club in division one. Playing at the Golden Cup Bartley Green, leaders of the division were defending an unbeaten record. Undeterred by the visitor’s record, the hosts stormed to a 6-3 victory.

Division one also produced a top performance from K.Redding (Weoley Castle), who not only recorded a maximum score of 180, but also a maximum 170 game shot, a superb double. Despite Redding’s efforts his team went down 7-2 to Avenue Social.

In the premier division the Bell with a 160 break from L.Gill and a 152 start by M.Smith defeated Hobsons Choice 6-3.

The Sheldon and District Winter League was the place to be for top individual performances this week as it provided a whole host of them. In the premier J.Goodman (Bradford Arms) had a 140 finish, 160 break plus nine and ten darts legs in his teams 5-4 win over St Annes, whose T.Keating also had a nine darts leg. There was a 180 for G.Stamps (Olton RBL) and a 160 break for J.Lacey (Iron Horse) as both teams lost 5-4 to respective opposition Smiths Wood Snooker and Stechford Social.

In division three Hobs Meadow lost 5-4 at home to Lea Hall Mixed with J.Zimmerman having a 160 break for the hosts and T.Weston notching a maximum for the visitors.

No fewer than 192 players turned up at the Belgrave Sports and Social Club, Tamworth, for the Wrawickshire Belgrave Open. The semi finals were made up of three Warwickshire players and one West Midlands. In the first of the semi’s Mark Hollyoake went out in three straight legs to team mate Andy Smith, while in the other Dave Clarke lost 3-1 to Wayne Jones (West Midlands).

In 15-16 and 18 darts Jones won the title and the £500 first prize. Smith received £200 and there was £100 for the losing semi finalists. There was also £25 for positions 5th to 8th.

It was the bottom playing the top in the Warwickshire Men’s Super League when Midland Red Harborne played hosts to Coventry Howitzers. No real surprise in the result which was 6-2 in favour of the Coventry team extending their advantage in pole position to eight points over their nearest rivals Bedworth Bank’s who were only able to draw 4-4 in their home tie with fourth placed Tamworth.

A 13-8 win against bottom of the table Perry Barr was enough to confirm Selly Park as Irish Centre Four a Side Ladies League champions. With 186 points and only one fixture remaining Selly Park are 29 points clear of their nearest rivals Northfield who slipped up in their match against Handsworth going down by 12-9.

The Warwickshire County teams will be in action again this coming weekend when at the Belgrave Sports and Social Club, Tamworth the play hosts to local rivals Staffordshire in their latest BDO Inter Counties Championship premier division fixture.

Red Arrows kept their title hopes on course in the Forest of Arden Winter League when they defeated reigning champions and one of their nearest rivals Hobs Meadow by 6-3. Arrows win also maintained their unbeaten run, which has now taken them into the second half of the season.
