Yorkshire completed their fixture card in the Cosmo Darts Premier Division of the UKDA National League with a close 19-17 victory away to Glamorgan, a somewhat surprisingly close win as the hosts were lying  in his just two places off the foot of the table with 156 points and Yorkshire riding high in pole position having completed their campaign with 229 points and with a lead of thirty-four points look certain to be this season’s champions.. Despite being held to an 18-18 draw at home by Cornwall, Lincolnshire have replaced Lancashire in the number two spot after they had a bye, Lincolnshire are on 195 points and Lancashire 187. Although Warwickshire went down 19-17 at home to Essex they hold on to fourth place with 182 points. With a final home fixture against Warwickshire, London look condemned to the Championship next season as they are on 142 points, fourteen fewer than the two teams above them Hampshire and Glamorgan who in their respective final games will play away to Essex and Hertfordshire, decisive games for both teams.

Top averages for the penultimate ‘A’ fixtures went to Essex players Shaun Fox and Donna Scherer, Fox beating Warwickshire’s Noel Grant 4-0 with a superb 34.55 average while Scherer won 3-1 against Hannah Meek (Warwickshire) with a 25.40 average. Topping the charts for the ‘B’ team games were Dennis Bryant (Cornwall) and Kirsty Bond (Hertfordshire) who in turn won 4-1 against Lincolnshire’s Shane Lowe with a 28.84 average and 3-0 against Hampshire’s Cara Rimmer with a 20.59 average.

The battle for the Andy Wheeler Fisheries Championship Division title will go down to the wire as current leaders Suffolk only have a slender one point lead on Sussex in second place. On current form Suffolk have the better opportunity of winning the title as they, despite playing away will square-up to Oxfordshire who are placed ninth in the table some thirty points short of their visitors while Sussex, although playing at home, will take on Humberside who are fourth in the division on 190 points and still not out of the reckoning for promotion as the team above them in third place is Cambridgeshire who have completed their fixtures and have 195 points. Staffordshire and Derbyshire appear to be the two teams going down to the L-Style Division One for next season as Staffordshire’s 20-16 defeat at Cheshire leaves them on 145 points at the foot of the table and Derbyshire are just above them on 149 points after losing 21-15 at Gwent, the win seeing Gwent two places off the bottom of the table but with 170 points, twenty-one more than their opponents and twenty-five to the good on Staffordshire.

Humberside’s Scott Williams chalked up an average of 31.99 in his 4-1 win over Cambridgeshire’s Ian Withers to top the men’s ‘A’ averages while the ladies ‘A’ was shared by Gwent’s Amanda Rosser and Suffolk’s Jo Locke who each recorded a 23.86 average in their respective 3-0 wins over Rachel Ayres (Derbyshire) and Claire King (Sussex). A 32.85 average saw Oxfordshire’s Geoff Heath top the men’s ‘B’ average which he achieved in his 4-0 win over Craig Connor (Kent). For the ladies ‘B’ it was Kelly Ryan (Sussex) who won 3-0 against her Suffolk opponent Jo Sillett and averaged 20.31.

In the L-Style Division One, leaders Middlesex suffered a shock 20-16 home defeat to middle of the table Leicestershire however they remain in pole position with 208 points with a final game away against fifth in the division Black Country who slipped from fourth to fifth in the table after their 22-14 defeat at Devon. Promotion is still wide open as after Middlesex with 208 points there are only eight point’s difference between second placed West Midlands and sixth in the division Leicestershire. Buckinghamshire and Cleveland look the likely candidates for relegation as the former are on 135 points and the latter having 145 with second from bottom Devon having 158.

Middlesex had both the men’s  and ladies ‘A’ team top averages, Joshua Burksfield taking the men’s with his 30.02 average in his 4-2 win over Leicestershire’s David Barker while for the ladies ‘A’ it was Lisa Brosnan who had a straight 3-0 win over Liz Brunt (Leicestershire) and averaged 23-12. Black Country’s Sam Bissell had a tremendous 34.55 average in his 4-0 win over Devon’s Mike Beard while the ladies ‘B’ top player was Cleveland’s Claire Stamper who in her 3-0win over Berkshire’s  Karen Jackson averaged 21.47.

A 23-13 home win over Northumberland keeps Worcestershire top of division two, their 217 points earning them the divisional title. With a 26-10 home victory over County Durham, Salopian finish as runners-up and for the second successive season gain promotion. Third placed Nottinghamshire won their home tie with Wiltshire 24-12 but finished twenty-five points off the top and ten points adrift of Salopian who have 202 points. Gwynedd’s campaign ended with a 24-12 defeat at Surrey to see them finish bottom of the table with 139 points and joining them next season in division three will be Wiltshire whose final loss at Nottinghamshire saw them end the season with 141 points.

Surrey’s Darryl Pilgrim had the highest men’s ‘A’ average of 31.81 in his 4-0 win over Gwynedd’s Alwyn Thomas, the ladies ‘A’ award going to Salopian’s Steph Clarke who defeated County Durham’s Clare Stewart 3-0 and averaged 23.12. For the ‘B’ sides Paul Harvey (Nottinghamshire) had a 29.07 average in a close 4-3 win over Dan Sturgess (Wiltshire), the ladies top average being 20.59 achieved once again by a Salopian player, Tracey Dean who won 3-0 against Mia Ashurst (County Durham).

Norfolk’s final fixture of the season in division three saw them win 24-12 at Pembrokeshire to confirm them as champions with 243 points twenty-six more than runners-up West of England who won their home tie with Shropshire 23-13 to replace their opponents in the number two spot and gain promotion. Isle of Wight’s campaign ended with a 24-12 home defeat to Wirral to see them finish bottom of the division with 94 points, Pembrokeshire just above them on 128 points.

The top men’s ‘A’ average of 29.35 went to Pembrokeshire’s Eirwyn Evans who won 4-2 against Norfolk’s Olly King while the ladies ‘A’ 22-10 average went to Norfolk’s Nikki Goldsmith who had a 3-0 win against Tracy Hopton (Pembrokeshire). 28.63 was the top men’s ‘B’ average and that was achieved by Bedfordshire’s Ryan Tharby in his 4-0 success over Breconshire’s Chris Carey. Top of the ladies ‘B’ was Montgomery and Radnor player Kelly Butler, her 19.52 average and 3-0 win over Gloucestershire’s Sam Higgins earning her the accolade.

Warwickshire’s penultimate fixture in the Cosmo Darts Premier Division of the UKDA National League was a home tie against Essex. Going into the game Warwickshire were lying fourth in the table on 165 points and their visitors seventh on 148 points. A win, to move the home side further up the table was what was expected but it didn’t quite turn out like that.

The ladies ‘B’ got off to a good start when Chloe McKivett-Saunders twice came from behind against Kelly Salmon to go on and win 3-2 before Claire Greenwood began her game against Keeleigh White with a win in the opening leg but then fell to the 3-1 result to see Essex draw level. For a second time Warwickshire went ahead when in the third game Donna Pinch got the better of the 3-1 result over Rosie Balwin and with a further 3-2 win for Jodie Rigg against Chloe Hawkins the home side were in an unbeatable position. Nina Bolt took Karen Williams to a deciding leg but it was Essex player Williams who got the 3-2 win to leave the result hinging on the final game. Kayleigh Brown looked all set to earn a draw for Essex when she opened up a 2-0 lead on Courtney Hine, but the home player stuck to her task and went on to win 3-2 and take the match award in the process for her 18.24 average, the match result 4-2 to Warwickshire ladies ‘B’.

The men’s ‘B’ had a setback in their encounter as they quickly found themselves trailing 3-0 when Matt Garrett won 4-2 against Karl Reynolds, Darren Richardson won 4-2 against Adam Hancock and Brandon Western beat Zac Prince 4-3. Simon Monk (Essex) won the first leg against Jnr Joyce but the Warwickshire man went on to seal a 4-1 win to reduce the arrears to 3-1 and with a win in the fifth for man of the match Ryan Jackson who beat Paul Marsh 4-2 and averaged 24.58, Warwickshire were still in the game. Although Mark Strong won the first leg against Danny McIntyre in was McIntyre who went on to win 4-1 to put the score at the midway point at 4-2 to Essex.

Things got worse as the second session got underway, Martin Compton beating Mark Carter 4-1, Stuart Wicks winning 4-0 against Mark Martin and Matt Gordon having a 4-2 win against Lee Miller to take Essex into a match winning 7-2 lead. Martin Tonks twice came from behind against Liam Willis to go on and win 4-3 only to see James Wright make it 8-3 to the visitors when he won 4-1 against Mark Faulkner. The final game of the day saw Warwickshire get their fourth winner, Dave Hill after trailing 2-0 against Phil Brewster going on to win 4-3 to put the result at 8-4 to Essex.

Although going into Sunday’s ‘A’ games the hosts were trailing 10-8 all was still not lost as the arrears were halved in the very first encounter of the ladies ‘A’ match as Marian Conway added her 3-1 win over Karen Breen to the overall score. With the opening game going against the first throw advantage the next three games followed in the same vein, Jade Gifford levelling for the visitors when she won 3-1 against Kirsty Hinchliffe before Warwickshire went ahead again in the third thanks to a 3-1 win from Wendy Adams over Kerry Rudd, Wendy’s win plus her 19.54 average earning her the match award. Parity was restored for a second time in the fourth when Donna Scherer beat Hannah Meek 3-1and then for the first time in the game, Essex took the lead when their Wendy Collins won 3-2 against Caroline Pike. The first leg of the final game went to Leanne Halls (Essex) but her opponent, Natalie Gilbert did not give up the fight and went on to win 3-1 and give her team mates a share of the spoils in a 3-3 draw.

A 7-5 win was now the least required from the men’s ‘A’ to secure even a share of the spoils but with the opening five games all going with the first throw advantage, that left Warwickshire with somewhat of a mountain to climb. Kevin Dowling came from 3-0 down against Steve Haggerty to level at 3-3 but then lost the decider in the opening game. Matty Washbrooke’s 4-3 win over Phil Halls levelled the game at one each before the away team took the lead for a second time when Aaron Gill beat Jamie Hughes 4-2. Squaring the game for a second time for Warwickshire was Gareth Braham, his 4-2 win against Jamie Peetoom taking the score to 2-2. Game number five  saw Keegan Brown give Essex the lead for a third time with his 4-0 win over Jack Wareing before the sequence was broken in the last game of the half when Essex went 4-2 up with a 4-0 win from Ben Adams over Steve Hine.

Warwickshire began the second half with a win supplied by Nigel Heydon who defeated Craig Vickers 4-1, Shaun Fox restoring the visitors three games buffer in the very next game when he accounted for Noel Grant with a 4-0 result. Sam Whittaker, Warwickshire’s man of the match reduced the arrears to 5-4 when he defeated Brad Halls 4-1 and averaged 30.15 and with a similar 4-1 win for Danny Lauby over Matt Good the score, with two games to play was level at 5-5. In the penultimate encounter Warwickshire took the lead for the very first time in the game when Wayne Mynard after leading 2-0 and then trailing 3-2 to Joe Russell went on to win 4-3. After losing the first three legs to Darren Peetoom in the final game of the weekend, Samuel Price came back to 3-2 down but lost the sixth leg and finished on the wrong side of the 4-2 result to put the final score at 6-6.

The overall 19-17 defeat sees Warwickshire still in fourth place with 182 points and with second and third placed Lincolnshire and Lancashire playing each other in the final fixtures of the season and Warwickshire playing away to bottom of the table London, they could still move further up the table.

West Midlands ninth fixture, a home tie against Merseyside in the L-Style Division One of the UKDA National League was brought forward by one week, a vital fixture and a must win game for both teams as the home side were lying fourth in the promotional table with 175 points and their opponents just above them in third place with 176 points.

The weekend didn’t get the start the home side were hoping for as the ladies ‘B’ slumped to a 5-1 defeat. Janet Sorrell, Molly Brash and Debbie Robinson giving Merseyside a 3-0 lead when in turn they accounted for Sarah Maybury (3-2), Shellbie Simmons (3-0) and Julie Emery (3-2). Fourth on for the home team was Hannah Meek who won 3-1 against Julie Whelan and the fact that she was West Midlands sole winner, her 18.02 average was enough to clinch the lady of the match award. The last two games went to Merseyside’s Sandra Rule and Claire new who in turn defeated Tara Simmons-Fullwood and Kelly Doleman 3-0 and 3-2.

The men’s ‘B’ had a much brighter start as their man of the match Martin Price got them off to a winning start when he accounted for Peter Robins with a 4-2 scoreline and 27.61 average. A 4-0 win from Dean Simmons-Fullwood over Philip Bennett doubled the lead and making it 3-0 was Ash Khayat with his 4-2 success against Wayne Lang. The home team’s lead was reduced to 3-2 when Chris Long beat Ryan Locker 4-2 and Dave Richards won 4-0 against Cameron Baird but by the halfway point West Midlands men’s ‘A were leading 4-2 after Adam Teasdale added his 4-2 in against Paul Smith to their tally.

The first four games of the second half were shared with Phil Lloyd and Mike Addison in turn winning 4-3 against Mark Curley and Karl Hughes, Will Beaden and Kieran O’Mahoney replied for West Midlands as they beat respective opponents Dan Nuttie (4-2) and Barry Bowes (4-3).Taking the score along to an 8-4 win for hosts were Luke Griffiths and Callum Parkes, Griffiths winning 4-0 against Alan Magee and Parkes beating Tom Gater 4-2.

As in the ladies ‘B’ game, the ladies ‘A’ also didn’t have the best of starts as Janet Hardman won 3-0 against Jacqueline Maiden and Viv Cullimore beat Gemma Barrettt 3-2. Lady of the match Evonne Taylor stopped the Merseyside charge when in the third game she won 3-2 against Jane Robson with a 20.18 average. The score was levelled in the fourth thanks to a 3-1 win from Shellbie Simmons who accounted for Vicki Lloyd. The away team got their noses in front once again in the fifth when Adele Mulligan won 3-1 against Kat McLean only to see the points shared in a 3-3 draw when last on Jacqueline Trott (West Midlands) beat Emma Barlow 3-2.

Going into the men’s ‘A’ match both teams still had everything still to play for with the score level at 12-12 and it was the away team who took the first lead as Ben Jones won 4-2 against Mark Craddock. A 4-3 win from Alex Simmons over Robbie Gorst levelled the game only to see Merseyside forge ahead again in the third when Terry Roach won 4-2 against Adam Teasdale. For a second time parity was restored, this time it was Scott Baker with his close 4-3 verdict over Tom Lockyer that kept West Midlands on level terms. Game number five saw the hosts take the lead for the first time when Glen McGrandle beat Kevin Lloyd 4-2 and by the midway point that lead was extended to 4-2 with a further 4-3 win from Callum Parkes over Steve Gow.

As in the first half the opener to the second went to Merseyside as Clive Rule beat Richard Platt 4-2 and with a similar 4-2 win for Bradley Williams over Neil Pointon the running score was now standing at 4-4. Gavin Baker’s 4-2 win against John Prescott gave West Midlands a 5-4 lead, Jack Aldridge guaranteeing a share of the spoils with his 4-3 win over Anthony Brown in the tenth. The winning seventh game was put up by man of the match Ryan O’Connor who in his 4-1 win against Dave Harnick he averaged 28.66. The last game of the weekend saw Shaun Carroll take West Midlands Men’s ‘A’ result to an 8-4 victory as he beat Aaron Jones 4-2.

The overall result for the weekend was a 20-16 victory for West Midlands which saw them leap up the table to pole position with 198 points, six more than former leaders Middlesex who dropped to second place. However being as West Midlands fixture was brought forward, their pole position would only last for one week as despite Middlesex somewhat surprisingly losing their home fixture with Leicestershire 20-16 they returned to top of the table with 208 points, ten more than West Midlands with one to play.

Black Country’s final away game in the L-Style Division One of the UKDA National League saw them travel to the south-west to take on Devon, a game which on current form was always going to be a win for the away side with the home team placed ninth in the table and 133 points while the away side were fourth on 177 points.

The home team’s ladies ‘B’ had the better start to the game with Alison Gabriel-Wotton beating Grace Angell 3-2, that lead doubled for the hosts when Lisa White won 3-0 against Marie Millward. Lacey Hughes, with a 3-0 result, accounted for Katie Miller and halved the deficit for the visitors only to see Lisa Hughes beat Kirsty Shaughnessy 3-1 and with a further 3-0 success for Kirsty Whiting-O’Brien over Leanne Wilson, Devon ladies ‘B’ were home and dry with a 4-1 lead. Black Country’s best came in the last when lady of the match McKenzie Taine Thomas won 3-1 against Tracy Ware with a 14.68 average.

It was a bright start for the Black Country men’s ‘B’ with Rob Smith and Rich Bowen in turn winning 4-1 against Mark Turner and Luke Grantham to open a 2-0 lead. The lead however was short-lived as by the midway point of the match the hosts were leading 4-2 with wins from Todd Woodberry, Kieran Joy, Andy Hitchman and Daniel Brazier who in turn defeated Neil Steventon (4-2), George Willetts (4-1), Mark Rollinson (4-3) and Jake Shipley (4-2).

As the second session got underway, Paul Palmer added to the home team’s lead beating Wayne Hobday 4-1 to put them 5-2 up. Game eight produced Black Country’s man of the match in the shape of Sam Bissell. Bissell handed out a straight 4-0 defeat to Mike Beard with an outstanding average of 34.55. Unfortunately for the away side that was to be their last winner as Devon stormed to a 9-3 victory with further wins from  Danny Belsten, who won 4-3 against Jamie Barrowman, Darren Pearce had a 4-2 success against Al Smith, Steve Donohue won his game with Mark Jones 4-1 and to conclude the day’s procedures, Jake Wreford beat Ian Townsend 4-3.

First on for the ladies ‘A’ was Heather Wright who put Black Country one up when she defeated Nicole Goyne 3-1. The lead lasted until only the next game as Kelly Gabriel levelled the match with her 3-2 win over Kirsty Shaughnessy. The visitors went ahead for a second time in the third when Chez Allcock beat Karen Matthews 3-2 and with a 3-1 win for Black Country’s award winner Doreen Hunt (18.33) over Hayley Brant, the away team were already assured of a share of the spoils. Alas a share was all it was going to be as Merryl Dennis (Devon) won 3-1 against Grace Angell and Anna Peatroy beat Stella Sims 3-0 to pout the result all-square at 3-3.

Black Country’s men’s ‘A’ could not have wished for a better start as Michael Powell not only beat Jack Walker 4-3 but in the process earned himself the match award for his 29.79 average. Taking the lead to 2-0 was Kieron Bridgwater who had a 4-1 success in his game with Simon Washington. Paul Milford pulled one back for Devon when he beat Trev Brennan 4-0, only to see the away side then go 4-1 up with a straight 4-0 win for tom Bissell over Luke Roberts followed by a 4-2 success for Dan Homer over Ben Chamberlain. The last game of the half went to the home team as Steve Colbourne got the 4-3 edge on Steve Jones to put the score at the halfway stage at 4-2 in favour of Black Country.

The 4-2 lead taken into the second half was soon eroded as Mike Pearce beat Jamie Rollinson 4-2 and with a 4-1 result, Mark Vellacott won against Harry Williams to restore parity at 4-4. A close 4-3 win for Cayden Smith over Shaun Hurrell saw Black Country forge ahead once more and with a 4-2 win for George Willetts over Flynn Jones, the away side were within an ace of victory as their lead now was 6-4. Victory was not to be though, a share of the points is what Black Country got as the last two games of the weekend both went to Devon, Scott Andrews and Brandon Stow in turn winning 4-2 against Paul Wells and Alex Howells to put the result at 6-6.

The defeat does now look as though it has cost Black Country any chance of promotion as they have dropped one place to fifth on 191 points and although only seven points short of neighbouring West Midlands in second place, they have a really tough fixture to bring the curtain down on their season, a home tie against divisional leaders Middlesex.

Salopian went into their final game of the season, a home tie with County Durham, in division two of the UKDA National League knowing that a win would almost guarantee them promotion, their second promotion in their four seasons in the National League. Game nine for Salopian saw them begin the weekend second in the promotional table with 173 points, eighteen short of leaders Worcestershire but eight to the good on third placed Nottinghamshire, their opponents, County Durham were placed fourth with 162 points.

The ladies ‘B’ gave Salopian the perfect start to the fixture, chalking up a fantastic 6-0 victory, all begun by lady of the match Tracey Dean who had a straight 3-0 win over Mia Ashurst with a 20.59 average. Stacey Pepperrell doubled the home team’s lead with her 3-2 success over Margaret Stewart and taking Salopian into an unbeatable 4-0 lead were Sue Lane and Hayley McGuinness, who in turn won 3-1 against Melissa Sams and Angie McDonald, Haley’s win seeing her end the campaign top of the ladies ‘B’ averages. Julie Griffiths 3-2 win over Suzanne Nixon made it 5-0 and with a final 3-0 win from Anna Peatroy against Sharon Storey the result was an emphatic 6-0.

County Durham got the better of the opening two games of the men’s ‘B’ match as Scott Jardine beat James Jenkins 4-3 and Michael Walker won 4-2 against Andy Gilbert. Two consecutive 4-1 wins for Dean Stokes and Jamie Kynaston over respective opponents Eddie Brown and Joe Weldon restored parity at 2-2 and although the visitors took the lead once again in the fifth when Ian Adamson won 4-1 against Ben Bevan, a straight 4-0 win to end the half from man of the match Andy Evans (24.74) over Stephen Hayers levelled the score at 3-3 at the break.

The second half all belonged to Salopian as they made a clean sweep winning all six games to give them a 9-3 victory. Chalking up those wins were Matt Williams (4-0) against Paul Berriman, Ian Bride and Steve O’Callaghan who in turn won 4-1 against Darren Sedman and Simon Dobson. A 4-3 win for Danny Humphries over Shaun Musgrave made it 7-3 and with a 4-0 win for Mick Unsworth against Robert Douthwaite and a final 4-1 win for Eddie Price over Davis Nixon, the 9-3 win was achieved.

Unusually all of the ladies ‘A’ games went against the first throw advantage, Steph Clarke first on for Salopian and winning not only 3-0 against Clare Stewart but also winning the lady of the match award for her 23.12 average plus at the same time ensuring she finished top of the ladies ‘A’ divisional averages. Cheryl Adamson was County Durham’s first winner she had a 3-1 success against Karen Weston. Giving the hosts the lead for a second time was Kate Tiley who accounted for Fran Jones with a 3-2 scoreline. Restoring parity for a second time was Linda Hindmarsh with her 3-0 win over Sue Lane but a similar 3-0 result for Tracey Dean in her game with Bryleigh Welsh assured the home side of a share of the points, and that was what they got as Laura Patton won the last game against Emma Tapp to give a final score of 3-3.

With the running score now standing at 18-6, Salopian required just one more win to secure an overall victory for the weekend and they didn’t have to wait long for it as opener for the men’s ‘A’ Ash Hilditch duly obliged with a 4-3 success against Michael Gladstone. The home side’s lead was then doubled as Dave Bayton beat Paul Johnson 4-1. Gary Miller pulled one back for County Durham when he won the third game against Eddie Price 4-3 but the remainder of the half went to the hosts as Gary Crowther won 4-1 against John Scullion, Terry Nash beat Gerry Hall 4-0 and Ian Evans ended the half with his 4-3 win against Ryan Anderson, to put Salopian 5-1 up. Gary Crowther taking the match award for his superb 31.46 average in his win over John Scullion.

As the second half got underway, Jamie Kynastion made it 6-1 with his 4-2 win over Graham Robertson before County Durham had their best run of the game winning two in a row thanks to their Paul Welsh who beat Kacey Jones 4-3 and Jack Bell with his 4-2 win against Mark Crutchley. On at number ten for Salopian was Paul Rowley who won 4-1 against Alan Bell and at the same time assured the home team’s men’s ‘A’ of victory with the score now at 7-3 but also his win making it nine out of nine wins for the season and guaranteeing himself the top spot in the men’s ‘A’ divisional averages. Andy Allaker chalked up the visitor’s fourth win in the penultimate encounter when he beat Jamie Chaplin 4-3 and with the same result, Salopian’s Jon Mansell won against James McClurg to put the final score at 8-4 to Salopian.

The overa;; score for the weekend was 26-10 to Salopian to see them finish as runners-up with 202 points, fifteen short of champions Worcestershire but nevertheless L-Style Division One next season.

Shropshire went into their final game of the season in division three of the UKDA National League knowing that a win, or even a draw in their away game against West of England would secure promotion and they would play in division two next season, however it was never going to be an easy task as their hosts were lying third in the division and only three points short of Shropshire.

It was not the best of starts to the weekend as the ladies ‘B’ crashed to a 5-1 defeat and West of England’s five winners all came in the opening five games. Getting the home side off to a winning start was Sheridan Chapman who won 3-1 against Sara Jones. A 3-0 win for Jayne Fitzgerald over Gemma Smith made it 2-0 before Julia Archer put the home team into an unassailable 3-0 position beating Dianne Newton 3-2. The win came in the very next game when Ang Griffiths won 3-0 against Kirstie Millington and with a further 3-1 success for Katie Bishop over Tanya Dolman, West of England had their five winners. Shropshire got their sole winner in the last game when Lauren Kempson won 3-2 against Abbie Chappell to earn the match award for her 14.79 average and the fact that she was the only winner.

Trailing 5-1, it was not too long before that was increased to 10-1 as Owen Smith, Gary Grimmitt, Paul Meyer, Mark Rose and Wayne Allen in turn defeated Brian Hickman (4-1), Brian Dolman (4-2), Steve Lynch (4-1), Mitch Pickett (4-1) and Jon Blakemore (4-0). The last game of the first half saw Shropshire chalk up their first winner and what turned out to be at the end of the day their only winner. With a 4-2 success over Nathan Fieldhouse, Rob Pierce averaged 24.76 and once again being the sole winner took the match award.

The second half began with three 4-1 winners for West of England, Jamie Harvey beat Shane Passey, Lee Pearce won against Simon Pritchard and Zach Quinn accounted for Mark Jones. The next two games both went to a deciding leg with Jon Taylor and Craig Bishop just getting the edge on their respective opponents Reece Cook-Lucas and Eddie Austin. Completing the rout for the hosts was Jack MacKenzie who rounded off the 11-1 win with his 4-2 result over Chris Hill.

Going into Sunday’s games West of England were leading 16-2 but Sunday was a much better day for Shropshire as their ladies ‘A’ side replicated the previous day’s ladies result but this time it went in Shropshire’s favour. Jenna-Louise Ball opened up with a 3-2 win over Deb Adams, Deana Sheldon adding to Ball’s win when she accounted for Gail Dent with a 3-1 result. Michele Pritchard ensured her team mates of at the worst a draw when she beat Cath Brennan 3-0 and in the process earned herself the match award for her 20.04 average. The home team got their first stripe on the board in the fifth when Emma Bowles won 3-0 against Nicola Ball but the all-important fourth win was added to Shropshire’s tally in the penultimate game when Sarah Williams won 3-2 against Karen Brown. The last game saw Marie Riggs hand out a straight 3-0 defeat to Sam Lloyd to put the final score at 5-1 to Shropshire.

With the running score now standing at 17-7, still in West of England’s favour, it took only the opening two games of the men’s ‘A’ match to secure an overall victory for the weekend. Chris Hartrey kicked off the proceedings with a 4-2 win over Andy Vellender and with a 4-3 win for Ellis Radford against Ben Johnson, there was only pride and the men’s ‘A’ win to play for the away side. Andre Knox halved the arrears with his 4-3 win over Mike Davis only to see Lee Harris restore the home side’s two games buffer when he beat Chris Fox 4-2. The last two games of the half had 4-2 results, both going to the visitors as Josh Pickett won against Andy White and Adam Thackray beat Dan Raby to put the score level at 3-3 by the break.

As in the first half the hosts won the opening two games of the second session, Matt Jackson winning 4-2 against Mark Zambra and Alex Seymour having a 4-3 win over Andrew Jervis before Shropshire had their best run of the match winning three in a row. Sam Aitkens began the trio of wins when he beat Martyn Lansdown 4-1, Brett Cooper restoring parity when he won 4-2 against Marcus Knapman. The penultimate encounter saw Shropshire take the lead for the first time in the game when man of the match Richard Parker beat Simon Lloyd 4-0 and averaged 27.45 to give anchor man Kevin Harris the opportunity to secure a win. Unfortunately a win was not to be as Rich Griffee handed out a straight 4-0 defeat to Harris to put the final score level at 6-6.

The overall result for the weekend was a 23-13 win for West of England to see them leap-frog Shropshire in the promotional table to finish as runners-up with 217 points compared to Shropshire’s 207 which saw them finish third in the division. Despite losing promotion on the last day of their season, Shropshire should not be downhearted as in the eleven plus years I have been writing up their reports I believe this is the highest they have finished throughout that time and what a foundation they now have for them to build upon for their next campaign.
