A West Midlands Round Up

The preliminary round of the Mrs F.Richman Trophy was on the fixture card for the Sheldon and District Summer League and no fewer than five teams recorded 7-0 wins, handing out the whitewashes were Crown Arrows, Langley Hall Sports and Social Arrows, Sheldon Heath Social, Greville Arms and Small Heath Amateur Gardeners who in turn defeated Meadway Sports and Social, Emerald Flights, Highwood Exiles ‘B’, Ridgemere Rejects and Banbury Club.

Other teams to win through to the next round were Holy Souls, Castle Vale Stadium, George V, Mackadown Social, Marston Green Tavern, Sheldon Dukes, Sheldon Marlborough Arrows, The Digby, Highwood KB’s, The Pirates and Sheldon Marlborough Flights.

A reminder to all darts players that throughout June, July and August Riley’s Snooker Bar, Solihull will be staging a knockout every Friday night for twelve weeks for players to qualify for the Club Champions final, the twelve winners will then do battle for the title Club Champion.

The top four players from each club will then take part in the Riley’s Darts Club Championships National Final on September 5th to produce the Club GB champion!

Each weekly qualifier carries a guaranteed prize fund of £100, the winner receiving £75 and the runner up £25. Players will pay £5 on the night to enter.

The National Final has a separate prize fund of £3140 broken down as follows, winner £1,000, runner up £500, losing semi finalists £100 each, losing quarter finalists £50 each, last sixteen £25 each and last thirty two £20 each.

The top four teams in division one of the South Birmingham League did battle this week when leaders Mackadown Social took on second placed Punchbowl and third placed St John’s played Banbury Club. The results saw Mackadown and Punchbowl finish all square at 4-4 to leave Mackadown two points ahead of their hosts, while fourth placed Banbury won 6-2 at St John’s and overtake them in third position, Banbury having the slightly better average as both teams have four points, Banbury also have two games in hand.

In division two both Erdington Members Club and St John’s Flights made it four wins in as many games when Erdington beat The Dog 7-1 and St John’s won 6-2 at Pavilions, Erdington have pole position leading St John’s by just one leg of average.

Just two results from division one of the Forest of Arden Summer League in which second in the table Journeys End beat Highwood KB 5-2 and Iron Horse won 4-3 against Sheldon Marlborough Arrows.

Division two leaders Chelsmley Town suffered a somewhat surprising 4-3 defeat away to Sheldon Marlborough Flights, their first defeat in six games but they still hold a two point’s lead over their victors who are second in the table.

The Halesowen Friday Night 501 League staged their fifth Air Ambulance Knockout which raised a total of £63 to take the running total to £472.

The winner of the knockout was Richard Hill who beat Kevin Harris 3-0 in the final, Harris kicking off the final with 2×140 but missed his finishing doubles and Hill went on to win the leg and the game.

Richard beat Simon Booton in the semi’s while Kevin won against Dan McConomy.

With Bully Boys not playing this week in the Winmau Centre Monday Night League leaders The Untouchables stretched the advantage over them to 37 points at the top of the table with a 26-22 win over Three Men And A Lady whose James Owen hit two maximums and his fellow team player Jemma Jenkins hit another.

Third in the table Misfits consolidated their position with a convincing 40-8 win against Mad House, Jason Hough and Mark Daniel on the mark for Misfits both hitting a 180.

There was a rare win for Here For The Beer who beat Mad House 29-19, Tam Singh notching a 180 for the winners to take their number of wins to four from the 20 they have played.

What’s The Point moved up the table one place over John’s Klan into fourth position following their massive 41-7 triumph over Double Trouble, Adam Teesdale finding the three treble twenties for the winners.

The Winmau Centre at the Wolverhampton Sports Arena, Dunstall Road, Wolverhampton, WV6 0QU will be one of 20 UK venues together with a further 236 from across the whole of South Wales staging regional rounds for the prestigious Worthington Champion of Champions Competition.

The Wolverhampton Arena will play off the West Midlands regional round over the weekend of the 11th and 12th of July.

With free entry the competition carries an amazing total of £17,500 prize money with a top prize of £5,000 for the eventual national winner plus cash prizes down to the last 32 players.

All men, women and juniors aged 14 or over qualify for free entry the eventual winner of the heat will then go forward to the grand finals in St David’s Hall, Cardiff on August 30th with the chance to walk away with an amazing £5,000.

Highlight of the week in the Brierley Hill Monday Night League was the six darts game by Anthony Stretton who broke with 160 and then had a game shot of 141, unfortunately Anthony’s team were not in such good form as he was as they lost their home tie with Bridge ‘A’ 5-4.

At the halfway stage of the season Dudley Sports ‘C’ lead the field with 38 points their latest win being 5-4 away to Portway who are fifth in the table. Second placed Bridge ‘B’ won 6-3 at home against Tenth Lock.

At the other end of the table Dog and Lamppost ‘B’, who are two places off the bottom recorded a rare win only their third in twenty games when they won 5-4 at home to Griffin who are one place above them and four points to the good.

It was a case of the top half playing against the bottom half in the Harborne League and as would be expected it was the top half teams that won so the table remains unchanged with West Heat Snooker Club leading the way with 24 points followed by Hillyfields ‘A’ and Court Oak who are both on 22 points.

John Buckingham added another two 3-0 wins to his tally in the Crown at Olton Double Top League when he defeated Alex Edwards and Chris Devlin to take his total points to 27 three more than second placed Tony Randell who had a 3-0 win over Chris Devlin and beat Anthony Daley jnr 2-1, Randell has however played one game less than Buckingham.

Apart from the defeat by Buckingham it was a good week for Alex Edwards as he chalked up his first win in nine games, a 2-1 success against Tony Steele.

The top two teams in the Hilltop Friendly Tuesday Night League Dewdrop and Old Hop Pole both won 5-2 this week, leaders Dewdrop beating Ivy Bush and Hop Pole winning against Merry-Go-Round. Third placed Jolly Collier handed out a 7-0 whitewash to their host’s bottom of the table Horsley Tavern while fourth placed Vine, who after playing one game less than Jolly Collier are on the same 18 points, won their home tie with Sportsman 4-3.

Crown ‘A’ leaders of the Cradley Tuesday Night 501 League had a bye this week and the three nearest chasing teams Brickmakers Arms, White Horse and Crown ‘B’ all won to join Crown ‘A’ on 32 points, Crown ‘A’ and White Horse have both played 19 games as opposed to their rivals having played 20 looks like it’s going to be an interesting second half to the season.

Week two in the Small Heath League and East Birmingham Allotments Holders Association after beating Wagon and Horses 9-0 in the opening fixture followed that with a similar 9-0 win over Cob’s Bar to put them top of the table on average from Mitre and Gulp Tribe who have also won their first two fixtures, Mitre also 9-0 winners in their game with Moseley All Service and Gulp beating Clock Inn 6-3.

The Camp Hill League have played off their Singles Knockout and taking the title and adding it to the numerous one’s he has already won was Neil Parsonage from Cotterills Lane Club. Neil won the final against Holy Gulp man Chris Stokes.

It’s as you were at the top of the Stourbridge and District Wednesday Night League with newcomers Gornal Conservative Club adding a 6-1 win over The Bell to their record giving them a perfect score of 16 points their opponents losing their fourth place and dropping to fifth as they trail on average behind Ashwood ‘B’ who have moved up into fourth place. Gornal have two points more than both Ten Arches ‘B’ who won 4-3 at home against Netherton Cricket Club and Ashwood ‘A’ who had a 6-1 home win against High Acres.

Kevin Harris added another two wins to his count in the Winmau Thursday Night Champions League when he defeated Joshua Parkes 7-0 and followed that up with a 5-2 success against Steven Homer to give him 120 points. Kevin Lane didn’t play this week and taking over from him in the number two spot is Mick O’Neill who despite losing his first game against Euan McGovern in a close 4-3 encounter then went on to win 7-0 against Tam Singh to put him on 100 points with two games in hand on Harris. Third in the table Kenny West is also on 100 points he had 6-1 and 5-2 wins over respective opponents Adam Hill and Euan McGovern.

Third placed Birchmoor Club were also 8-0 winners playing away to next to bottom of the table Two Gates Club and Prince of Wales who are placed second had a 7-1 win at Tamworth Motor Spares, so with the top three winning and the bottom three losing the league table remains the as you were.

J W Belgrave have a massive ten points lead over their nearest rivals Pip Club, J W winning 9-7 at Old Liberal while Pip Club were surprisingly held to an 8-8 draw by Globe ‘B’ who as a result move up one place to next to bottom.

The League Cup Knockout was on the agenda for the Wolverhampton Tuesday Night League and in the division one games winning through were ECC, Wednesfield FC, Victoria and Riley’s ‘D’, while in division two Fordhouses CC, Emerald, Roebuck and Whitmore Reans WMC were all successful.

Riley’s ‘A’ had a convincing 7-0 win over Jones Road in the Tettenhall Wednesday Night League to keep them two points ahead of Otter and Vixen who had a closer 4-3 win away to Woodfield Social Club, Riley’s ‘A’ with 32 points now have a four points lead on Otter and Vixen. Third placed Riley’s ‘B’ are a further two points adrift they won 4-3 at Moreton.
