Salopian Super League:Week 6:

It is a case of as you were at both the top and bottom of the Salopian Super League following week six fixtures with the top four all registering wins and the bottom four all losing.

Charles Darwin ‘A’ remain two points clear at the top of the table having played one game more than most. They enjoyed a 5-1 win away at Inn on the Green ‘B’ but had to come from behind as Steve Felton (16.12) had put the host one up. It was almost two nil as Antony Jebb (20.16) gave Paul McMullen (22.10) a real test before Paul ran out the 4-2 winner. After a close call the hosts only claimed two more legs as the momentum shifted to the league leaders with wins for Jason Davies (20.00), Steve O’Callaghan (24.15), Matt Elsey (24.17) and Ash Hilditch (27.08) to give the Charles Darwin ‘A’ a third successive 5-1 victory.

Market Drayton outfit Salopian Star remain second although they survived a tough test from the Plough who made the long trek from Craven Arms. Stuart Alder set the hosts on their way firing his second 28 plus average score of the season that included 14 and 15 dart legs as well as a maximum.  James Carter (23.51, 180) levelled up after defeating Rob Henderson (22.32) over seven legs before Pete Eley (24.44, 13 darts game) restored Salopian Stars lead. Once again the Plough drew level as Duncan Morris (18.77) overcame Tim Eley (20.45) who had a 17 darts leg plus a maximum, the game once again being decided in the last leg.  Salopian Star regained the lead for a third time through Joe Higgins (23.85) who defeated Matt Simpson (22.92, 15 darts game,180) this time they held onto the overall lead with Derek Coulson (25.09) securing an excellent team victory with the matches sixth maximum in the final game of the night that saw an overall match average off 22.77 per dart.

Dawley Social travelled over to take on Charles Darwin ‘B’ in Shrewsbury and secured a 5-1 victory to ensure the third and final 100% record remains intact. Daniel Astbury (25.47) leads the individual averages, he recorded 14 and 15 dart legs as well as hitting a seventh maximum of the season. He was backed up by team mates Mark Jones (21.88) and Andy Gilbert (21.55) to crown a fine performance for the Telford outfit who remain third. Wayne Evans (17.26) was the solitary winner for the home side who remain one point clear of the bottom three.

Completing the top four are Wentnor side Inn on the Green who had to come from behind against an improving Bulls Head side as the Whitchurch team raced into a 2-0 lead with 4-1 wins for Terry Nash (27.38) and Rob Paine (23.72).  Crucially, the hosts took the next game through Rob Burton (15.26) before Glyn Thomas (20.52, 180) levelled the score after being pushed to a deciding leg by Che Kerin (18.11). The battle of the Price’s saw Eddie (21.48, 180) overcome Bulls Head’s Rowan (20.60) once again in a last leg decider before Tony Burton (20.97, 128f) took the Inn on the Green to a third successive win whilst the Bulls Head remain two places off the foot of the table.

Inn on the Green ‘A’ continues to impress with an eye catching performance away to the Griffin in Oswestry. They took the first five games with Phil Passant (25.39) setting the standard with his straight 4-0 victory. James Mansell (23.84), Dean Rogers (20.97, 180), Paul Evans (20.84) and Andy Williams (18.58) were the other winners to see the Shrewsbury side move up two places to fifth in the league. Kacey Jones (26.46), 13 darts game) staved off the whitewash but the Griffin, who fell to a second defeat of the season slip two places to tenth.

The Bagley Club are also on the march up the league moving up to sixth place after a 4-2 win away at the Dickin, Wem. The visitors raced to a 3-0 lead following wins for Mike Lewis, Andy Kynaston (19.18, 108f) and Vaughan Owens (23.46). The Dickin replied with a salvo of 4-3 victories for Matt Price (18.02) and Kev Rogers (21.66) to leave the match in the balance going into the last game that duly went the way of the Bagley Club after Paul Andrew (23.65, 13 darts game) won 4-2 over Paul Ashworth (21.89). It’s a second successive defeat for the Dickin who remain eleventh three points clear of the bottom three teams.

The final game of the night saw the Hop and Friar make the short journey across Shrewsbury to the Monkmoor and it would be the visitors who would emerge the happier following their 6-0 away win. Steve Ritchie (18.07) fired three 180’s whilst John Roberts (20.85) hit his fourth maximum of the season. Credit the Monkmoor who ensure the Hop didn’t have everything their own way as they took legs in every game but it’s now a fifth successive defeat that sees them at the bottom of the league, all be it on leg average difference.
