Salopian Super League

Charles Darwin ‘A’ are now out on their own at the top of the league table with five out of five wins following the latest round of Salopian Super League matches that saw an impressive twenty two maximums recorded overall. Charles Darwin were always ahead against Wem outfit Dickin Arms, taking the first four games with Steve O’Callaghan (22.45, 180,130f) setting the standard that was matched by team mates Matt Elsey (21.79, 107f,18 darts game) and Paul McMullen (22.90, 180), before Ash Hilditch (23.03) rounded things off winning 4-0 in which he hit a maximum, had a 15 darts leg and checked out on 122.

Paul Ashworth’s (23.30) fine form continued, on the back of his first county win, he also notched a maximum, recording winning legs of 16 and 17 in his straight 4-0 victory to give the Dickin there only win of the night as they dropped five places to eleventh.

Salopian Star, without a game this week remain second two points behind Charles Darwin ‘A’ and are now joined by Dawley Social Club who returned to action with a polished 4-2 home win over Compasses Inn.  Dawley also made the perfect start taking the first four games, dropping just two legs as they recorded a team average of 25.38 per dart. Sam Hamilton (27.09) led the way with a 180 and there were further maximums for team mates Dan James (26.37) and Dan Astbury (26.03).  Compasses Scott Dockerty (21.63) halted the onslaught before Jon Mansell (26.14) included a 12 darts leg to put some form of respectability on the final score but it was a first defeat of the season for the Compasses who drop to fifth.

Inn on the Green, Wetnor complete the top four places after they enjoyed an excellent 5-1 victory at the Hop and Friar in a match that featured no fewer than seven maximums. Glyn Thomas (21.55) and Ben Morgan (22.52) opened up proceedings each finding the three treble twenties and both winning without dropping a leg.  John Roberts (24.17) replied in some style for the hosts firing three maximums to momentarily halve the deficit. The Burton brothers, Rob (22.02) and Tony (22.48, 180) responded for the Inn on the Green before Ben Bevan (22.45, 180) ensured a nap hand for the Wetnor outfit who have now secured back to back victories.

Another South Shropshire side to enjoy a 5-1 success was the Plough who overcame Shrewsbury side Inn on the Green ‘B’ at Wistanstow. Captain Des Francis (19.09) set the example with a 15 dart leg plus a 116 outshot in the opening match and was backed up by team mates Dave Bishop (20.77), James Carter (21.37, 180) and Terry Williams (18.45) who edged out Anthony Jebb (18.31) in a last leg decider to open up a 4-0 lead. The Inn on the Green ‘B’ hit back in the next game through Jason Thompson (17.52) in a full distance seven legs affair, before Duncan Morris (21.45, 180) completed a fine victory for the Plough who move up three places in the table to sixth.

The Inn on the Green ‘A’ side fared much better with the 5-1 home win, very much in vogue this week.  Charles Darwin ‘B’ provided much sterner opposition than the final score line suggested taking 12 legs in total. James Mansell (19.65) put the hosts ahead only for Wayne Evans (21.31) to level up after defeating Paul Evans (22.34, 180) 4-2. Jay Adams (18.60, 180) saw the home team regain the lead through Phil Passant (23..47) and Andy Williams (18.23) before Sacha Rothwell (21.55) rounded off a fine win pitching two maximums that see Inn on the Green ‘A’ move up to seventh in the league. John O’Callaghan (19.97) hit the fifth maximum of the match. The result sees Charles Darwin ‘B’ remain in twelfth position in the table.

Bagley Club returned to winning ways with a clinical 6-0 win at home to Monkmoor. Andy Kynaston (25.13) recorded a 120 finish to set the hosts on there way. Team mates Steph Clarke (21.78) and Vaughan Owens (22.87) also impressed with Vaughan firing a 14 darts leg as well as checking out on 116.

Although well beaten the Monkmoor took legs in all but one of the games with Glen Sewell (19.05) firing a 15 darts leg before being edged out in the decider against Paul Harris (18.35). It’s a fourth successive defeat for the Monkmoor who now find themselves bottom of the league whilst Bagley climb two places to ninth.

Finally a previously pointless Bulls Head righted that wrong and it was perhaps fitting that they gained there first point at home against draw specialists Griffin (Oswestry). Jamie Kynaston (18.39) put the visitors ahead only for Nigel Neale (23.25) to survive match darts against Steve Tomley (21.18, 180) to level the score. Simon Brewin (16.35) restored the Griffin’s lead that was then extended through Kacey Jones (22.93) who came from 3-0 down to defeat Rob Paine (21.63, 180). The Bulls Head claimed the last two games through Che Kerin and Terry Nash (24.14) to ensure a third draw of the season for the Griffin who consolidate their mid table position.
