Warwickshire County Darts Organisation’s new county home venue Hen Lane Social Club, 6 Beacon Road, Holbrooks, Coventry, CV6 4DS was the setting for the Coventry Christmas Open Singles and Doubles Knockouts with both competitions attracting top class players and producing some first class darts, none better than that in the early rounds when Nick Fullwell produced a NINE darts winning leg against Andy Maher giving him an outstanding 39.24 average. Fullwell then progressed as far as the semi-finals where he made his exit after going down 5-4 to Warwickshire’s Rob Comben.

From the other half of the draw Australia’s Damon Heta booked his final place with a 5-3 win over Sam Whittaker, Heta maintaining his top form in the final in which he went on to clinch the title plus the top prize of £300 with a 6-2 win against Comben who collected £150.

There was £75 for players reaching the last four, £30 for the losing quarter finalists and £10 for players who reached the last sixteen.

In the doubles knockout West Midlands duo Ian Jones and Mark Craddock successfully retained their title with a final 4-2 win against Ian Withers and Scott Williams to earn themselves the winner’s prize money of £180 with Withers and Williams receiving £90.

In the semis Jones and Craddock won 4-1 against Kevin Bambrick and Joe Taylor while with a similar result Withers and Williams defeated Prakash Jiwa and Charlie Symons, the losing semi-finalists picking up £40, the duos making their exist in the quarter finals received £20.

Weoley Castle WMC was kept busy at the beginning od December when they played hosts to no fewer than four competitions, two on Saturday and two on Sunday.

Saturday’s main competition semi-finals saw Jermaine Wattimena record a straight 6-0 win over Ronny Huybrechts while Warwickshire’s Steve Hine made his exit losing 6-4 to Rhys Haden. The final went the full thirteen legs distance with Rhys Haden beating Jermaine Wattimena 7-6 to pick up the winners top prize of £1,000 with Wattimena collecting £400 as runner-up.

Losing semi-finalists Ronny Huybrechts and Steve Hine each received £180 and there was £60 for players reaching the quarter-finals Kim Huybrechts, Dave Pallett, Diogo Portela and Colin Osborne. Suzanne Smith received £50 for being the last lady standing in the competition.

The ladies top prize of £300 went to Yvonne Taylor who beat West Midlands county player Jacqueline Maiden with a close 5-4 result in the final, Jacqueline taking home £160. Losing semi-finalists Suzanne Smith and Josie Paterson received £80 each and there was £45 for players going out in the quarter finals and £25 for players reaching the last sixteen.

£1,200 was on offer for the winner of Sunday’s main event and collecting that was former West Midlands man Nick Fullwell who had a final 5-4 win over Brian Dawson who received £500. There was £250 for Scott Hope and Warwickshire’s Nigel Heydon who lost out in the last four and £75 for each of the losing quarter finalists. Warwickshire’s Natalie Gilbert was the lady to go the furthest in the knockout and collected £50.

A total of 76 PDC, BDO and county players congregated at the Somercotes Snooker Club, Leabrooks Road, Somercotes, DE55 4HB to participate in the Ripley Elite Darts Singles League’s Annual Christmas Open which saw Sleafords Ex PDC tour card holder Ross Twell became the tenth winner of the ever popular competition.

As ever the competition produced some top class darts, none better than the tense final itself which wen the full nine legs distance with Twell just getting the close 5-4 edge on Yorkshire’s Brian Dawson to give him the top prize of £500.

On his way to the final Ross Twell took out Daz Johnson, Aden Kirk, James Thompson, Tony Hill and Nathan Richards while Dawson accounted for Greg Tucker Beard, Tony Jacklin, Lee Cropper and Tony Molineux before squaring up to in-form Nick Fullwell in the semi-finals. The Yorkshire man kept his nerve and went on to defeat Fullwell 4-2 and collect £200 as runner-up.

There was £100 for each of the losing semi-finalists Daz Johnson and Nick Fullwell and players going out in the previous round Colin Osborne, Aden Kirk, Leighton Bennett and Tony Molyneux all took home £35.

There is a special mention to Nick Kirk who did a fantastic job in running the competition and got it all done and dusted in under five hours.

Champions of the Brierley Hill Monday Night League Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club completed their fixtures with their thirtieth win in 34 games when they won 6-3 at Brickmakers Arms to see them finish two points ahead of runners-up Roebuck who ended their campaign with a 5-4 win at Portway.

The bottom two teams did battle in the end of season fixtures with King William taking the wooden spoon as they were unable to add to their two wins when they lost 6-3 at home to the team directly above them Limes Club

With the domestic fixtures completed and the Vine crowned champions of the Hilltop Friendly Tuesday Night League with The George finishing as runners-up, the league staged their Delegates Cup final in which Paul Bladen beat Steve Cliff in what was a very close game. Losing semi-finalists were Matt Wall and Tony Whitehouse.

The Netherton Thursday Night League brought the curtain down on their season with the finals of their Andy Bastable Trophy and Andy Bastable Shadow Cup, in the former the winners were league champions Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club who lifted the silverware with a win in the very last game, winning 5-4 against Riddins Tavern who ended the season in third place.

The Andy Bastable Shadow Cup winners, with a final 6-3 win over Netherton Conservative Club were Townsend Social Club.

The Small Heath League played off various cup finals and first up was the Captains Knockout which saw East Birmingham Allotment Holders Association player Colin Wyatt win the event with a final 2-0 result over Ash Lattimer from Cob’s Bar.

The Secretaries knockout winner was Paul Webster again from East Birmingham Allotment Holders Association, Paul beating Rob Pikey, once again the runner-up coming from Cob’s Bar and yet again the score 2-0.

The Ladies Knockout title went to another East Birmingham Allotment Holders Association player, this time Lorna Wyatt who won the final against Michelle Cain (Heartlands Club) 2-1.

The Cradley Tuesday Night League staged their Singles Knockout and winning the title with a final 3-2 victory over Steve Tipper (Netherton Sports and Social Club ‘A’) was Nick Fullwell representing league champions Brickmakers Arms ‘A’. Losing semi-finalists were Richard Bowen (Brickmakers Arms ‘B’) and Anthony Jones (Riddins Tavern).

The title for the Masters Knockout in the Rowley Monday Night League went to Connor Whitehouse who represented league champions The Bell. Dayle Locke from Tividale FC was the losing finalist.
