After narrowly losing out 6-5 to West Midlands man Scott Baker in the final of the Winmau BDO Wolverhampton Classic Singles event, the very next day Surrey’s Dave Parletti went one better to win the Winmau BDO Wolverhampton Open.

In the semi-finals Parletti had a somewhat comfortable 5-1 win over Andy Hamilton then joining him in the final after winning 5-3 against Wesley Newton in the semis was Mark Layton from Wales.

The final saw Parletti claim the top prize of £1,500 with a 6-3 result and runner up Layton receive £700. There was £300 for Hamilton and Newton, £150 for the losing quarter finalists, £100 for players losing in the last sixteen, £50 for players losing in the last 32 and £25 for players going out in the last 64.

With the league fixtures all done and dusted the South Birmingham League have had cup finals on their agenda, the Knockout Cup final saw Coleshill Social beat Banbury Arrows 6-3 while the Jimmy Walker title went to The Gate who had a close 5-4 win over Crown Jewels. An 18-8 result against C’s Arrows gave division two champions Iron Horse the Mini League title and in the divisional cups Erdington Members Club added the division one cup title to their already won division one league title when they won 7-2 against Crown at Shard End. In the division two cup C’s Arrows got revenge for their defeat in the Mini League when they somewhat surprisingly beat Iron Horse 5-4.

Despite being absent for week eight of the Shirley Premier League Steve Sidwell held on to pole position with 50 points from 15 games. Phil Thomas had a somewhat mixed night as he began with a 2-2 draw with Mark Gwalchmai, beat Derek Harper 4-0 and finished with a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Lee Harris. Nevertheless Thomas joins Sidwell on 50 points but has played one game more than him. Just one point behind the leading dup on 49 points is Mark Henderson who with a 3-1 win over Karl Wilson followed by a 4-0 success against John O’Sullivan did his title hopes no harm whatsoever.

The division one and division two of the singles section of the Wolverhampton Tuesday night League are similar insomuch as the two leaders Riley’s ‘C’ and Wednesfield Legion are both on 28 points and they both have a ten points lead over their nearest rivals respective teams Bull and Royal, Albrighton.
