The C’s Club, Chelmsley Wood, Birmingham is becoming a big name in darts venue’s in the Birmingham area staging a brand new league, the C’s Club Double Top League and running various knockouts.

In its inaugural season the Double Top League has attracted a very encouraging 32 players and after completing the opening four weeks fixtures the early leader is Luis Barberan with 24 points from 9 games. Just three points behind Luis and with a game in hand is Neil Parsonage while third placed Tom White is a further three points adrift on 18 points but has only played six games and has three in hand on Barberan.

The club staged another of its increasing popular knockouts and winning it for a second consecutive time was Neil Parsonage. The semi-finals matched the two finalists from the previous knockout and once again it was Neil Parsonage who got the better of Jake Webster, on this occasion beating him 4-1, both players hitting a maximum. Luis Barberan won his last four game against Jake Liggins 3-0 and booked his final spot against Parsonage with a 4-1 result against Terry Webster. The final produced a 5-2 scoreline and once again it was Neil Parsonage who took the top prize.

In the first round losers Plate Competition Steve Whatmore took the honours with a close 3-2 win over Richard Mills. Losing semi-finalists were Lee Walker, who lost 2-1 to Whatmore and Ryan Beale who Mills beat 2-0.

Following the success of their previous two knockouts the club staged a May Bank Holiday Knockout and reaching the final after winning 3-0 in the last eight against Glen James and beating Richard Mills 4-1 in the semis was none other than the current Double Top League leader Luis Barberan. From the other side of the draw Andy Hutchings progressed to the final with a 3-1 win in the quarter finals against Terry Webster and a 4-1 win in the semis over Jake Webster.

Barberan continued his fine form in the final hitting a maximum and recording a thirteen darts leg in a 5-0 win over Hutchings.

Winner of the two previous main knockouts Neil Parsonage made an early exit in this event and took part in the first round losers Plate Competition, Parsonage taking the honours with a final straight 3-0 win over Steve Whatmore after he had won his last four game against Lee Walker 2-1 and Whatmore had won 2-1 against Dan Stone.

With the tenth season of the Shirley Premier League all done and dusted it was decided that on presentation night after all the players had received their various winnings and Paul Higgins had been crowned new league champion that there would be a doubles knockout with partners being randomly selected. The winners of the event were Mark Gwalchmai and Ken Hopton who in the final won 3-2 against league champion Paul Higgins and runner up Phil Thomas.

In the last four games Gwalchmai and Hopton won 3-1 against Andy Thomas and Chris Thomas snr while losing out 3-0 to Higgins and Thomas were Jordan Ottley and Mark Henderson.

The week following the presentation saw the league lay on a pre-season singles competition and after winning the doubles knockout with his partner Ken Hopton, Mark Gwalchmai then added the singles knockout to his tally as he defeated John O’Sullivan 3-2 in a very close final, Mark was also taken the full distance in the semis where he won 3-2 against Andy Thomas while O’Sullivan had a more comfortable 3-0 success against Leigh (Rocky) Clutterbuck.

The Woodside Inn was the setting for the Brierley Hill Knockout and taking the top prize of £90 was Reece Colley who had a notable 6-3 win over West Midlands star Ian Jones in the final, Jones received £50.

The Sheldon and District Winter League have completed their season and what a season it has been for Dunky’s Boys as they had a clean sweep winning the Premier Division title, the Divisional Cup, Punch Bowl Cup and on the individual scene their Bob Nixon took the singles title plus Pete Yardley and Andy Hutchings won the doubles.

The team is so named in memory of the late Dave Duncan who captained the team for some 30 years.

In the premier division cup final Dunky’s had a 7-2 win over Iron Horse and with a similar scoreline East Birmingham Allotment Holders Association beat Lyndon Old Boys to take the division one title. The division two final was a much closer affair with Langley Hall Sports and Social Flights just getting the 5-4 edge on Greville Arms.

In the semi-finals of the Punch Bowl Dunky’s Boys won 8-1 against Lyndon Old Boys and repeated that result in the final where they squared up to Langley Hall Sports and Social Arrows.

Both of the semi-finals of the Sheldon Shield finished with 5-4 scorelines as Maggies defeated Sheldon Marlborough and Crown Arrows won against Langley Hall Sports and Social Flights. The final also had a close 5-4 result which went in favour of Maggies with Crown Arrows runners up.

Avenue Social Club, Weoley Avenue, Birmingham was the setting for a charity match between the Harborne League and Kings Norton League in a bid to raise funds for the Air Ambulance.

With wins from Dave Hill, Kenny Bedder, James Hykin, Ashley Hykin, Tony Hamilton, Dave Hopkins, Graham Dews and Richard Mann the Harborne League won the game 8-3. Winning for the Kings Norton league were Simon Hodges, Chris Burke and Liam Fox.

The biggest winner of the night was the charity as the evening raised a fabulous total of £367.50 made up of £212.50 from the night, £50 from each of the leagues and £55 raised by Tony Hamilton in sponsorship money.

The final of the Small Heath League’s Doubles Knockout was a close 2-1 result with T.White and L.Robinson beating their team mates C.Wyatt and N.Davis, all four players representing East Birmingham Allotment Holders Association.

White and Robinson won their semi-final game against S.McCormack and G.McCormack (Heartlands Club) 2-1 and Wyatt and Davis beat Jim Frost and S.Cain, also from Heartlands Club, 2-0.

The Stourbridge and District Wednesday Night League have completed their season and winning the league with 62 points was The Swan who won the title by just two points over Ashwood ‘A’ who had a massive 12 points advantage over third in the league and local rivals Ashwood ‘B’.

Gate Hangs Well won the Shadow League with Ten Arches ‘A’ the runners up.

Individual and cup honours were, most wins and singles winner Rupert Skidmore (Ashwood ‘B’) with Gav Moreton (Swan) runner up in the singles, Moreton with his team mate Martin Harper won the doubles knockout after beating Kelvin Chambers and Chris Fox (Ashwood ‘A’) in the final.

Three players registered a seven darts leg Ryan Tipper (Brickmakers Arms), Gav Moreton (Swan) and Simon Mills (Wombourne Cricket Club). Ryan Tipper had the highest break of 160 no fewer than four times with Kevin Harris (Ashwood ‘A’) recording the highest finish.

Ashwood ‘A’ won the League Cup with Wombourne Cricket Club runners up while the Shadow Cup went to The Bell who defeated Ten Arches ‘B’ in the final.
