As Warwickshire County Darts Organisation go into the final third of the campaign in the Premier Division of the BDO Inter County Championships they will be hoping to make it three wins in seven games as they take on Glamorgan at their home venue Bishopsgate Club, Foleshill Road, Coventry, CV1 4JJ.

Currently Warwickshire are placed fifth in the table on 117 points just six fewer than their visitors who are two places above them, a win could see them overtake their opponents.

After a great start to life in the Premier Division of the BDO Inter County Championships West Midlands with two wins, one draw and only one defeat in their opening four games have since dropped down the table to seventh place following two consecutive defeats and will be looking to get back into winning ways this coming weekend when they play hosts to Lincolnshire who are on the same 106 points as them and directly above them in the table.

Will Naylor has had his lead reduced to six points in the Erdington Red Lion Double Top League after he first beat Steve Cain 3-0 then lost 2-1 to Matthew Cain and his nearest rival Dean Bayliss added 3-0 wins over both Ryan Barritt and Alex Downes to his tally to put him on 73 points.

Lewis Bayliss lost ground on the leading duo and also lost his third place as after beating Alex Downes 2-1 he then lost 3-0 to John Frost who replaces him in third place with 67 points one more than Bayliss.

Congratulations to Richard O’Grady who only began playing darts the week prior to the opening games of the season and in week seventeen he chalked up his first win, a 3-0 success against Stuart Larvin.

The Boat, first division title contenders in the Four Oaks and District League made hard work of their 5-4 win at Drakes Drum trailing 3-1 after four games and having to win the final game of the night to salvage the points. Royal Sutton Flights beat The Boot 7-2 to put them on the same 20 points as The Boat with a game in hand. The two teams will play each other in the final game of the season, could well be a title decider.

Red Lion took the final three games against Bishop Vesey to secure a very close 5-4 win to hold on to the number one spot in the second division. Pint Pot Flights won 7-2 at The Fox and trail Red Lion by just a few legs of average.

Boldmere Tap top the third division they replace The Oscott Social despite Oscott winning 5-4 away to bottom team Lad in the Lane as Boldmere had a 7-2 win over St Thomas’s Arrows to put them level on 18 points with Oscott but with one leg of average more than their rivals.

P.Locke (The Boot), J.Clarke (Drakes Drum) and M.Ashton (Royal Sutton Flights) all recorded their second maximums of the season while M.Compton (Old Oscott Arrows) hit his third.

The South Birmingham League played off the quarter finals of their Knockout and Jimmy Walker Cups. The shock of the round in the Knockout Cup was the 5-4 defeat of Erdington Members Club by Crown at Shard End. Erdington are unbeaten in their eight league games with Shard End their nearest threat as they have won six of the seven games they have played. Other winners of the round were Iron Horse, Banbury Arrows and Coleshill Social who in turn defeated The Punchbowl (7-2), The Raven (7-2) and Mackadown Social (5-4).

There were no surprises in the Jimmy Walker Cup as C’s Arrows, Crown Jewels, The Gate and The Trident made their way into the next round at the expense of Chelmsley Conservative Club (7-2), C’s Flights (6-3), The Dog (5-4) and The Kingfisher (6-3).

It’s as you were for the top three teams in the Shirley and District Monday Night League, Highwood remaining in pole position after making it 17 wins in 18 games with a 6-3 victory at The Lodge. Second and third placed Dunky’s Boys and Red Lion stay two points off the top after an impressive 8-1 win away to Saracens Jesters by Dunky’s and a 6-3 win at Legionnaires by Red Lion.

Following their 6-3 win at Studley Conservative Club in the Henley and District League Studley Cricket Club need just one more win from their final three games to clinch the title and after an unbeaten eleven games they look all set to become champions.

Wharf Swifts drop from second to third following their 5-4 defeat at Wootton Bears and replacing them in the number two spot is Dorridge who won their fixture at Wythall Legion 7-2.

It was a good week for bottom team Beausale who won for the first time in eleven games when they beat the team just above them in the table Village Inn 5-4.

Third and fourth placed Riddins Tavern and Bulls Head are on the same six points as White Horse after in turn defeating Delph Bell and Townsend Club.

Rob Smith was in top form in division two of the Yeltz Bar Tuesday Night Singles League as he held on to the number one spot with a 5-0 win over Dan Singleton in which he hit an amazing three maximums and chalked up winning legs of 12, 15 and 18 darts, he stays two points to the good on second place Tommy Johnson.

In division one Mark Adams has a slender one point lead over Matt Moore following his 4-1 success against Phil Harrold.

The top spot in division three goes to Trevor Collier who despite not playing this week remains one point ahead of second placed Ash Portman who lost his game with Ant Williams 3-2.

This week’s column ends on a sad note as the Forest of Arden League report with regret the passing away of Andy Howell. Andy played many years for the Journeys End team in the league and will be sadly missed by all of his team mates and everyone who knew him.

The funeral will take place at 11.00am on Thursday 1st March at the Robin Hood Crematorium and afterwards at The Langley Hall Sports and Social, Everyone is welcome to attend but should note it was Andy’s wish that people wear bright colours and no black please.
