The West Midlands Men’s Super League have got their new season underway and although reigning champions Landywood ‘A’ got off to a winning start it was a close 3-2 result against Allens Sports Bar ‘D’. Newcomers to the league Wilson Hall had a fine start as their ‘A’ team won 4-1 against Allens Sports Bar ‘B’ and the ‘B’ side won 3-2 at Gilberts Bar. Another two new teams to the league Three Diamonds and Woodside played each other with Woodside the 4-1 winners.

The league’s early pacesetters are Allens Sports Bar ‘A’ who were the only team from the starting line up of sixteen teams to win 5-0, S.Baker, D.Nicholls, S.Carroll, A.Edgar and N.Fullwell handing out the whitewash to their opponents Staffordshire Knot.

Steve Sidwell continued his strong start to the Shirley Red Lion Premier League’s new season with 4-0 and 3-1 wins over Chris Thomas snr and Andy Thomas respectively, however it was not enough to keep him in the top spot as Mark Gwalchmai played three games against Noreen Harris, Steve Heeks and Karl Wilson winning all three 4-0 to give him a total of 31 points from 9 games as opposed to Sidwell’s 28 from 8, the only player in the league with a 100% record.

Dave Heighway is third in the table on 24 points followed by three players, Chris Thomas, Ken Hopton and Andy Thomas all on 23 points

The £5 prize for the highest finish in week four went to Tom Bent who checked out on 120 in his one winning leg against new man Mark Henderson who won the tie 3-1.

The quarter finals of the Divisional Cup was the order of the day for the Forest of Arden Summer League, the league’s top two teams Journeys End Flights and Journeys End both having big wins as the former won 8-1 at the C’s and the latter going one better with a 9-0 result away to Highwood Exiles. Greville Arrows also progressed to the last four with a 6-3 win at Highwood Arms.

The Crown Arrows versus Highwood KB is a late result.

As a result of Paul Sunner losing 2-1 to Chris Cotter who is fourth in the Sheldon Heath Dukes In House League and Lee Molyneux beating Phil Ashford by the same scoreline, Molyneux has taken over pole position from Sunner with 22 points from his 10 games and leaves Sunner second just one point short of Molyneux with a game in hand.

Sean O’Donnell had mixed fortunes in week nine as he won 2-1 against Mick Hicks and then lost by the same margin to Simon Banks to put him on 18 points from 8 games and place him third in the table. Chris Cotter and Paul Curry are also on 18 points but they have both played nine games.

It was the League Cup semi final week in the Small Heath League and league leaders East Birmingham Allotment Holders Association recorded a big 8-1 win over Wagon and Horses. Meeting E.B.A.H.A. in the final will be Heartlands Club who won their last four game against Gulp Tribe 6-3.

It was a case of the top two teams playing against each other in group one of the South Birmingham League  with leaders The Raven winning 7-1 against second placed The Bell to give them a three points lead and a game in hand on their rivals. In group two there was a first defeat in seven games for top side Pavillions as they went down 5-3 away to The Trident who are placed fourth in the table.

Two points separate the top two in group three following 6-2 wins by both Erdington Members Club and Mackadown Social. Erdington, who won away against Crown at Shard End head the table while second placed Mackadown beat their hosts Coleshill Social.

The Pip Club League played off the semi finals of their Shadow League Cup, in the division games there were wins for Belgrave Club and Birchmoor Club who in turn defeated Sports Bar and Globe Trotters.

Winning through to the final in division two were Old Liberal and Progressive Club who won at the expense of Wigginton Arms and Pip Club respectively.

The South West Birmingham Clubs League were engaged with the semi finals of their division one Bob Price Cup. Both ties finished with a 5-2 scoreline, Bournbrook losing to CEM West Heath and Longbridge United beating Greenlands to set up an exhilarating final between the league’s current top two teams.

Tomorrow night (10th August) the Winmau Centre in the Wolverhampton Indoor Community Sports Arena will be staging the latest in their series of knockouts.

Once again for just a £5 entry fee there will be a guaranteed £100 prize for the winner plus in addition all entry fees will paid out in prize money.

Dudley Sports ‘B’ fifth in the Brierley Hill Monday Night League table were the only losers in the top seven teams in week 21, playing away to eleventh placed New Talbot they went down 5-4. Top of the table Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club won 6-3 away to Portway to give them 34 points while second placed Bulls Head (Netherton) won their home game against Lamp Tavern 8-1 to keep them on the same number of points as the leaders and reduce the average deficit to jus two legs.

Cotterills Lane Club march on in the Camp Hill League taking their unbeaten run to 17 games with a huge 7-0 win over third in the table Holy Gulp to keep them four points to the good on their nearest rivals Hay Mills Social Club Lions who won 5-2 against Eagle and Ball and have a game in hand on the leaders.

There was a rare win for New Inn their 4-3 success against bottom team Station Wagon only third fourth in sixteen games.

The Sutton and District Summer League had semi finals on their fixture card, first the Prestridge Shield in which division one runners up Golden Hind once again finished second best to divisional champions The Boat as they lost narrowly by 5-4. The second of the semi’s also finished 5-4 with Drakes Drum beating Plough and Arrows.

In the Roy Bird Trophy Boot had a comfortable 8-1 win over The Duke while Red Lion booked their final place with a 6-3 verdict against Pint Pot Flights.

Just one division two fixture played which saw leaders Erdington Club almost certainly clinch the title with a 5-4 win over their local rivals Erdington Arrows, the win giving them a four point’s lead over second placed Red Lion who still have two games to play as opposed to one for Erdington Club.

At the halfway stage of the Stourbridge and District Monday Night League leaders Ten Arches ‘A’ kept their two points advantage over their ‘B’’ team intact with a 6-3 win over Church Tavern,  second placed Ten Arches ‘B’ winning 8-1 at Crestwood. Third in the table Gate ‘B’ also won 8-1 in their fixture at Stourbridge RBL but fourth in the table Brickmakers Arms lost ground as they were beaten 5-4 by the Bridge (Kingswinford) who are in fourth place and now on the same 32 points as their opponents.

Week three of the Brierley Hill Friday Night League saw the top three teams all win to keep their unbeaten runs going. Leaders Netherton Cricket Club ‘A’ had a 5-2 win over Miners (Wollescote) to keep them just ahead of Brickmakers Arms ‘A’ on average after their closer 4-3 home win against Pensnett Welfare Club ‘A’ who drop from third to fourth, they have been replaced by their ‘B’ team in third place after they won 4-3 against Brickmakers Arms ‘B’.

There was a shock for reigning Bilston and District League champions The Nutan in week three of the 301 division as they lost 4-3 away to league newcomers Kings Arms, this was the host’s first win in the league. Tilted Barrel head the table with a maximum six points their latest win being 4-3 away to Rocket Pool. Second placed Darlaston Conservative Club are just one leg of average off the top after winning 4-3 against 44 Club.

The Nutan lead the 501 division, their 3-0 win over Kings Arms giving them a one leg of average advantage over joint second in the table Bilston Conservative Club ‘C’ and Tilted Barrel.

With Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club having a bye in the Netherton Thursday Night League second placed Riddins Tavern took full advantage to reduce the arrears to nine points with a 7-2 win over bottom of the table Crown but with games fast running out it does look as though runners up is the best they will achieve this season.

The Rowley Monday Night League had semi finals on the agenda and in the Bill Bishop Cup there were wins for The Bell and Whiteheath Tavern against respective opponents Fairfield and Cradley Liberal Club.

The Challenge Cup produced a local derby between Three Diamonds and Three Diamonds ‘X’ with the former taking the honours. The other game played saw Cottage account for Roost.

After the opening two weeks games in the Black Country Premier League Colley Gators lead the way with four points but only on average from Britannia Bulldogs, Windmill Hill Warriors and Halesowen Hunters. Colley Gators were 11-3 winners against Mighty Mitre, Bulldogs beat Vintage Games 10-4, Warriors also won 10-4 against HBD and Hunters were 10-5 winners in their game with OQH Hunters.

6-1 was the score by which both Ashwood ‘A’ and Brickmakers Arms won in the Stourbridge and District Wednesday Night League. Ashwood ‘A’ beat Stourbridge RBL to top the table with 16 points, Brickmakers are on the same 16 points with a slightly inferior average after winning against Station Inn. The leading duo are two points to the good on both The Swan and Ashwood ‘B’ after the opening two games.

Leaders Dewdrop had a massive win in the Hilltop Friendly Tuesday Night League when they beat Island Inn 5-2, the defeat seeing Island Inn drop from second to third in the table behind Wagon and Horses on average. Wagon and Horses beat bottom of the table Hayes Social 7-0 to put them and Island Inn on 32 points eight behind Dewdrop.

Week five in division one of the Sheldon and District Summer League saw Iron Horse Flights ousted from the number one spot and drop to third in the table when they lost 5-3 at home to The Harvester. Mackadown Social’s 7-1 win at George ‘V’ has taken them into pole position with a slender one point lead.

Fox and Goose and Highwood Exiles the top two teams in division four played each other, the 4-4 result leaving the former top on 9 points and the latter second with 8.

In league one of the Yeltz Bar Tuesday Night Singles League leader Richard Reed took his points tally to 87 with a 5-0 win over Richard Barrett, a five points lead over second laced Tommy Johnson who didn’t play in week 21 and now has two games in hand on Reed.

League two leader Mark Bayliss made it five straight wins with a 4-1 success against Jack Hill to give 23 points and a lead of 8 over second placed Anthony Williams who has only played four games.

The Wednesbury and Darlaston Wednesday Night League trebles knockout was won by Caven Timmins, Deka Owen and Paul Edwards (The Nutan) with Sean Jones, Daniel Highfield and Brian Vincent. (Churchills) runners up.

The licencee Katie Ann Round and managers Sarah and Simon of the Wheatsheaf, 379 High Street, West Bromwich, B70 9QW are looking for darts teams for their newly refurbished pub and would welcome anyone wishing to enter a team in any of the local leagues.

In this day and age it is often difficult to find a pub willing to entertain your darts team so why not check the venue out and speak to one of the three people in charge Katie Ann, Sarah or Simon.

In the division one singles league in the Wolverhampton Tuesday Night League leaders Riley’s ‘C’ fell to only their second defeat in 19 games when they lost 5-2 to second in the table Sunbeam who are now within four points of the leaders with a game in hand.

There was a similar occurrence in division two when top team Dog and Partridge lost 4-3 to second placed Wednesfield Legion but Dog and Partridge still have a four points lead.

Amazingly the top three teams in the Tettenhall Wednesday Night League, ECC ‘A, Whitmore Reans WMC and Cleveland Arms in turn all lost 4-3 in week 23 to Swan Compton, Bull and ECC ‘B’.
