With the division two title in the South Birmingham League already sorted and The Gate crowned as champions, division one provided a dramatic climax to end the season as the title all depended on an outstanding rearranged fixture between respective second and third placed Mackadown Social and Crown at Shard End.

Prior to the fixture Mackadown were second two points behind Erdington Members Club with a slightly better average, the result was a convincing 8-1 win for Mackadown to put them on the same 24 points as Erdington but with a four legs of average advantage which gave them the title.

Despite the heavy defeat Crown at Shard End finished in third place four points adrift of the top two but six to the good on fourth placed Coleshill Social.

The Small Heath League staged their Jim Haveron 3 A-Side Knockout and lifting the title with a final 7-2 win over the Gulp Tribe’s trio of N.Parsonage, D.Heighway and M.Cooper was the East Birmingham Allotment Holders Association ‘B’ team comprising of C.Wyatt, J.Webster and T.White.

In the semi finals E.B.A.H.A. ‘B’ took out Foaming Tankard with an 8-1 scoreline while Gulp accounted for Wagon and Horses ‘A’ with a 7-2 result.

Of the ten starting teams in the Forest of Arden Summer League only two are able to boast a 100% win record after the opening four games. Journeys End top the table having played four fixtures, the latest of which saw them win 7-2 at home to Kingshurst Knights. Journeys End Flights are in the number two spot they have played three games and won all three.

A 7-2 win at Greville Arrows sees Highwood KB in third place with 4 points leading on average from both Highwood Arms and Greville Arrows, Highwood Arms suffering a somewhat surprising 7-2 defeat away to Crown Arrows who prior to the encounter were bottom of the table without a win.

Due to the fact that he didn’t play in week 13 of the Shirley Red Lion Premier League Tom Bent has been ousted from the top of the table and drops to second behind new leader Paul Higgins whose 3-1 win over Tim Lowe followed by a 4-0 success against Mikey Harris has moved up one place in the table and taken his points tally to 76 from 26 games, three more points than Bent but he has played one game more.

Lee Harris holds on to third place despite losing his opening game against close rival Mark Gwalchmai 3-1 and being held to a 2-2 draw by Steve Heeks. Harris with71 points is level on the same points as fourth placed Andy Thomas and one to the good on Mark Gwalchmai but Gwalchmai has games in hand on all four of the players above him.

The £5 prize for the best finish of the week went to Mick Bown who checked out on 116 in his 4-0 win against Pete Silver.

There’s no stopping Hillyfields ‘B’ in the Kings Norton League as in match number 20 they handed out a 7-0 whitewash to their hosts bottom of the table Billesley to put them on a perfect 36 points from their 18 games and gives them a four points lead plus a game in hand on second placed West Heath who lost ground on the leaders when they went down 4-3 in their home tie with Cotteridge Social, Cotteridge being some four places below them and have eight points fewer than their hosts.

Because of West Heath’s defeat third placed Stirchley United managed to reduce the arrears to four points with a 7-0 home win over Coldstream who are next to bottom of the table just ahead of Billesley on average, both teams having won just one game so far.

Mick Baker, winner of the Winmau Centre Thursday Night Champions League for the past two seasons massively increased his chances of making it a trio of wins when in week 23 he beat table topper Sam Guest 5-2. Guest remains in pole position with 226 points from 21 games but Baker who moves up into second place is on 217 points from 39 games, nine points short of Guest but his two games in hand hold a potential total of 14 points.

Third in the table Louis Burley almost certainly took himself out of the reckoning when after winning 7-0 against both Sam Aitkens and and Baz Pearce then lost 5-2 to Paul Boddison who in sixth place is a considerable 31 points adrift of Burley. Fourth placed Chris Williams didn’t play in week 23 and with three games in hand on Burley could beat him to third place.

With Crown ‘A’ winning 5-0 at Olde Queens Head and Landywood ‘A’ winning by the same margin away to Bridgtown Social nothing has changed at the top of the West Midlands Men’s Super League, Crown ‘A’ and Landywood ‘A’ both on 161 points with only three games remaining.

The Pheasant are third in the table and four points short of the top two teams after their 4-1 win at Chillington, an important win as their hosts are their nearest rivals in fourth place, but now trail Pheasant by some 23 points.

The Warwickshire Men’s and Women’s Super League AGM is on Sunday the 25th June with an 11.00am start, the Chairperson must be proposed and seconded for both in writing, the same applies to one men’s  team selector. Any other proposals for rule changes must be in the hands of either the men’s or ladies secretary at least 7 days prior to the set date.

The County AGM is set for Sunday the 20th August again with an 11.00am start, any proposals must be in the hands of the Secretary no later than 14 days prior to set date.

Both the Super League and County meetings will be held at the Bishopsgate Club, Foleshill Road, Coventry, CV1 4JJ.

The Brierley Hill Friday Night League staged the final of their League Cup at Dudley Sports which produced an exciting and entertaining tie between league winners Brickmakers Arms and Netherton Cricket Club ‘A’ who finished the season in third place four points behind their opponents.

The outcome of the final was a very close 4-3 result going to Netherton Cricket Club ‘A’ denying their final opponents of the league and cup double.

Four points is the difference between the top two teams in the Main Division of the Pip Cub League as leaders and second placed Queens Head and Bulls Head ‘A’ (Polesworth) both won 6-3 in week 20. It was an important 6-3 win for Queens Head as they took on third in the table Winning Post, the win putting them eight points ahead of their opponents. Bulls Head ‘A’ (Polesworth) won at home against Belgrave Club who are fifth and with 20 points are 18 short of the leaders.

Week six of the Sutton and District Summer League matched the top two teams in division one with leaders The Boat playing away against second placed Golden Hind. With both teams undefeated something had to give and with the very close 5-4 verdict going in favour of the home side Golden Hind not only took their unbeaten run to five games but replaced their visitors in pole position, Boat drop into second place and now trail their opponents by two points.

In the second division leaders Erdington Club had a bye but hold on to the number one spot with an undefeated eight points. The Boot and Red Lion in turn both won 5-4 against Drakes Drum and Erdington Arrows to put them within two points of the top team, however Red Lion have played one game more than both Erdington Club and Boot.

The Fox took their winning run to five games in division three with a vital 5-4 win away to their nearest rivals Old Oscott WMC, this being Old Oscott’s first defeat of the campaign and leaves them two points off the top.

Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club consolidated their number one position in the Netherton Thursday Night League with a 7-2 home win over third placed Bulls Head who as a result go down one place in the table to fourth. Riddins Tavern are in second place six points behind the leaders after a 6-3 home win against next to bottom of the table Hill and Cakemore. Delph Bell are third on the same 15 points as Riddins and lost the opportunity to overtake their rivals when they went down 6-3 at Fairfield, however they still have a game in hand on both Riddins and Ex Serviceman’s.

The semi finals of the Blackcountry Windscreens Trophy were on the agenda for the Hilltop Friendly Tuesday Night League and current league leaders Dewdrop found themselves trailing by 3-1 to fourth placed The Vine who required just one more win to reach the final. Nevertheless despite the deficit Dewdrop fought back and went on to secure their final place with a very close 4-3 win.

The second of the semi’s saw Waggon and Horses beat Ivy Bush 5-2.

In division one of the singles leagues in the Wolverhampton Tuesday Night League Riley’s ‘C’ won the local derby against their ‘A’ team 5-2 to go four points ahead of second placed Sunbeam who lost by the same 5-2 scoreline away to The Boat who are two places off the foot of the table.

Dog and Partridge also have a four points lead at the top of division two they won their home tie with Yale Club 5-2 while second in the table Wednesfield Legion went one better with a 6-1 result at Pendulum.

In the doubles leagues Riley’s ‘B’ head the first division with 24 points their latest game seeing them win 3-0 against Pavilion the same score by which second placed Wednesfield Conservative Club beat Jack’s Bar to remain six points behind the leaders.

A 2-1 win at Pendulum plus a 2-1 defeat for Riley’s ‘D’ has given Wednesfield Legion a four point’s lead at the top of the second division.

Swan Compton were the only losers in the top four teams in the Tettenhall Wednesday Night League going down 4-3 away to fifth placed Riley’s. Top of the table ECC ‘A’ handed out a 7-0 whitewash to their hosts Dog and Partridge while second and third placed Whitmore Reans WMC and Cleveland Arms were both 5-2 winners in turn against Jones Road and Village Inn, Whitmore level on 24 points with ECC ‘A’ and Cleveland four points behind the top two.

The Wednesbury and Darlaston Wednesday Night League played off their Margret Melia Vase and Runners Up Cup and taking the title for the former was The Nutan who defeated Black Horse in the final. The Runners Up Cup went to Staffordshire Knot with Churchills ‘B’ runners up.
