A West Midlands Report

In their penultimate fixture in the premier division of the BDO Inter County Championships Warwickshire travelled south to take on Essex but it turned out to be dreadful weekend as three of the four teams lost in an overall 22-14 defeat.

Warwickshire were unable to emulate last season’s 20-16 win over their hosts the ladies ‘B’ side the only team to come out of the match with anything as they finished all square at 3-3, Donna Pinch (18.77) their lady of the match, Trina Gulliver took not only the ‘A’ team’s award but was their only winner in their 5-1 reversal.

For the men the ‘B’ lost 8-4 with Matthew Edgar their top player with a superb 30-36 average, the ‘A’ were 7-5 losers with Nigel Heydon (29.49) taking their match award.

In division two West Midlands enjoyed their weekend fixture at home to bottom of the table Wiltshire as they registered their best win of the season so far a massive 28-8 victory their biggest win since they won 29-7 at home to Suffolk on the weekend of the 18th and 19th of October 1997 and the first time they have won all four games since March 2014 at home to Northamptonshire.

Both ladies teams won 5-1 with Debbie Loon (18.90) and Sarah Roberts (17.89) taking the respective ‘A’ and ‘B’ awards.

The men’s ‘A’ had their best victory of the season a 10-2 result with Ian Jones taking his man of the match award tally to four for the season with a tremendous 31.81 average. The ‘B’ team were 8-4 winners with Paul Price taking the award with a 28.36 average.
