A West Midlands Report
The Four Oaks and District League have been winding down their season with various cup finals, the first night of the finals being for the Coronation Shield, Norman Day Cup and Challenge Cups, the Coronation Shield went to the wire Old Oscott Arrows going 5-4 up against Golden Hind then losing the penultimate game 3-0 to trail 7-5 and leave them requiring a 3-0 result in the final encounter to win the title. It was not to be as Golden Hind went on to clinch an 8-7 win.
In the Norman Day Cup third division’s Boldmere Oak came up against division one champions The Beehive and the difference between the two teams was highlighted as The Beehive romped to a convincing 15-0 victory.
The Challenge Cups were played to a result and again it was the division one teams who dominated, Red Lion played division two’s bottom team Pint Pot Flights and won five of the seven singles games to secure a 5-2 win, while Sutton Sports won all seven of the singles games inflicting a 7-0 defeat on division three runners up The Fox.
In the final division one runner’s up Sutton Sports beat their divisional third placed team Red Lion with a decisive 6-1 scoreline.
The final of the Derek Masters Singles sponsored by Central Container Services brought together two Sutton Sports players M.Ashton and R.Hawker, it turned out to be a repeat performance for Hawker as he for the second successive year claimed the title with a straight 3-0 victory.
On the night there were 180’s for R.Hawker (Sutton Sports), J.Morris jnr (Golden Hind) C.Hawkley (Old Oscott WMC and S.Alexander (Anvil Nomads).

Gate Hangs Well, third in the Cradley Tuesday Night League suffered a massive setback in their bid for the title when they lost their home tie with league leaders White Horse 5-4, White Horse taking their unbeaten run to eleven games. Second in the table Crown ‘A had a 5-4 win at Chop House to remain two points adrift of the leaders and now two points ahead of Gate Hangs Well.
Hawne Lane Tavern moved off the foot of the table recording their first win in twelve games a 6-3 home success against middle of the table Netherton Sports and Social Club ‘A’.

Dewdrop made it ten wins in as many games in the Hilltop Friendly League this week when they won 6-1 away to next to bottom of the table Island Inn, second placed Old Hop Pole had a closer 4-3 home win over Sow and Pigs and remain six points off the top but with two games in hand.
Third in the table Jolly Collier lost 4-3 at home to The Vine and now have to share the position with their victors as they are now level on points and average, both teams having 12 points.

Bulls Head ‘A’ (Polesworth) consolidated their number one spot in division one of the Pip Club League by handing out an 8-0 whitewash to their visitors Two Gates Club who are next to bottom of the table. Birchmoor Club in second place stay hot on the heels of Bulls Head with a 7-1 win at Bulls Head (Two Gates) putting them level on the same 14 points as the top team trailing only on average.
A 6-2 home win over Wigginton has seen Tamworth Motor Spares move up one place in the table to third leaving them three points behind the leading duo.
Globe ‘A’ moved up from fifth to fourth in division two following their 10-6 win against Sports Bar ‘180’ who are third in the table. Top team J W Belgrave stay six points ahead of the rest of the field with a game in hand on second placed Pip Club after a surprisingly narrow 9-7 win at home to bottom of the table Globe ‘B’, Pip Club were also 9-7 winners in their game against Gate (Amington).

The Winmau Darts Centre – based at Wolverhampton Sports Arena in the West Midlands have begun their Winmau Thursday Night Champions League, a singles league, with cash prizes from first to last and in addition to sponsorship money, all cash in will be paid out; but as a major bonus for the eventual winner there will be a twelve months Winmau sponsorship award (terms apply).

Cotterills Lane Club took their unbeaten run in the Camp Hill League to six games with a 4-3 home win over Holy Gulp, Gulp dropping down one place in the table to fourth, four points off the top and having played one game more.
Scruffy Ringers strengthened their second place by handing out a 7-0 whitewash to their visitors Horses to remain two points behind Cotterills.

Bulls Head were the only losers in the top five teams in the Netherton Thursday Night League going down 6-3 at home to fourth placed Brickmakers Arms.
With only one fixture remaining the battle is on for the runners up spot, with the title already decided and going to Springfield Social Club as they are six points ahead of both Netherton Sports and Social and Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club with two games to play and their rivals who are both on 48 points have just average separating them, so a win for both teams in the last of the season is vital.

Cup semi finals were the order of the day for the Forest of Arden Winter League, first the Consolation Cup in which Highwood ‘A’ second in division one lost 6-3 to third in the table Journeys End. The second semi was an all division two affair with leaders Iron Horse winning 5-2 against Highwood Exiles.
Both of the Presidents Cup semi finals went to the form teams division one leaders Olton Crown beating division two’s Highwood KB 6-3 and Highwood ‘C being awarded a 9-0 walkover against Greville Arms as they didn’t turn up.

The Brierley Hill Friday Night League have played off the first round of their League Cup and winners in the first leg were Bridge, Brickmakers Arms, Netherton Cricket Club and Pensnett Welfare Club, who in turn defeated Bulls Head (Netherton), Dudley Sports ‘A’, Mitre and Miners (Wollescote) but that could all change in the second leg.

No change at the top of the Aston League as the top three teams all won in week eighteen, leaders Sportsmans Rest hosted bottom of the table Aston Social and won 8-1 to give them 29 points from 15 games, while second placed Red Lion, who are four points behind Sportsmans with a game in hand beat Safe Harbour 6-3. Third placed Kingstanding Ex Serviceman’s were 8-1 winners at Heartlands giving them 22 points but from only 13 games, wins in their games in hand would take them to within two points of the leaders.

With the Small Heath League season drawing to a close things are getting tight at the top of both the main and shadow leagues. In the main league due to a function taking place at the Gulp the game was switched to Sheldon Marlborough Flights where despite having home advantage the Flights went down 7-2 to the league leaders who now have one hand on the title. In the battle to keep in touch with the leaders Emerald Club hosted Mitre and with a title challenge still on for the winners it was the hosts who got off to the better start taking an early 3-1 lead to leave the Mitre chasing an uphill task which proved to be too much for them finishing on the wrong side of a 6-3 result which almost certainly rules them out of the title race.
With the Clock cancelling at the last minute the Wagon and Horses have now secured at least 4th spot in the league.
In the shadow league Cobs Bar have moved back to the top thanks to a 6-3 victory away at the Warwick Arms who will be disappointed to have lost after taking an early lead.

The top two teams in the Tamworth League are both on 124 points, Fox and Dogs lead the way on average following their 7-0 win at Three Tuns ‘B’ (Faxeley), while second placed Belgrave Club, who have played one game more than Fox and Dogs had a 6-1 home win against Old Liberal House.

In division one of the Wolverhampton Tuesday Night League Wednesfield FC made it six straight wins with a 6-1 home win over Cabin, however they remain second to ECC who after their 4-3 win at Rileys ‘C’ have the same 12 points as Wednesfield FC but have played seven games and have a better average.
In division two leaders Pheasant lost for the first time in seven games, a somewhat surprising 5-2 defeat at home at the hands of the Old Stags Head team who move up two places in the table to fourth.
Fordhouses CC jumped from fifth to second with a 6-1 home win over Red Lion but together with Bull, Old Stags Head and Roebuck are all two points behind the leaders.
