The top three teams in the premier division of the Sheldon and District Winter League kept up their bid for the title this week leaders Crown at Olton had a 7-2 home win over fifth placed and reigning champions Saltley Amateur Gardeners, while second in the table Crown at Shard End remain two points behind the leaders on 26 points following their convincing 8-1 win against Willclare Sports and Social. Third in the table The Lyndon had a closer 5-4 win at Sheldon Dukes to put them on the same points as Crown Shard End who have played one game more than their two rivals.

Banbury Club had a bye this week in division one and as a result lost pole position as Castle Vale Stadium beat Crown Arrows 7-2 to go level on 24 points with Banbury but with a better average and a game in hand. Division two leaders Crown-Forget-Me-Not won 7-2 against Greville Arms and have a four points lead over both Sheldon Marlborough Flights and The Maggies.

In a dramatic finish to the season The Beehive have emerged as champions of division one in the Four Oaks and District League. Playing away against bottom of the table Golden Hind Arrows they won the first six games to clinch the title taking it away from Sutton Sports who have held it continuously since the 2006 / 2007 season. Sutton were also 7-2 winners in their home tie with third placed Red Lion and although they finished with a slightly better average than Beehive had to settle for the runners up spot as they were two points behind them.

Prior to the final fixture in division two Golden Hind and Boldmere Sports were level on points at the top of the division, Boldmere went 4-2 down against next to bottom Erdington Stars but rallied to go on and win 5-4, meanwhile Golden Hind also trailed 4-2 away to third in the table Plough and Arrows but like their rivals went on to win 5-4 and in the process win the division by just one leg of average, both teams having 24 points..

Division three produced a showdown between the two joint leaders Anvil Nomads and The Fox, with a maximum from T.Tyrie Nomads went on to win the tie 7-2 and the divisional title by two points.

There were wins for the top three teams in the Stourbridge and District Monday Night League as leaders Ashwood held on to their four points advantage with a 7-2 win at Stourbridge RBL while second in the table Ten Arches had a closer but vital 5-4 win away to fourth placed Brickmakers Arms, Britannia are a further two points adrift in third place and boosted their average with an 8-1 win away to Shrubbery Cottage.

In the battle of the Stourbridge Birds the ‘A’ team were the 7-2 winners, while in the Conservative Club encounter Quarry Bank beat Kingswinford, again by 7-2.

After the opening six games in the Halesowen Friday Night League Members Club ‘A’ are the only team able to boast a 100% record their latest victory being a 6-1 success against The Laurels who are next to bottom of the table. Chop House are currently second and they had a 5-2 win at Hare and Hounds.

The league have staged two knockouts so far in a bid to raise money for a very worthy cause the Air Ambulance, winning the first knockout was Richard Hill who defeated Kevin Harris by 3-2 in the final, the evening raising £100. The second knockout raised £191 and winning on that occasion was Tommy Johnson, Richard Hill just missing out on a double as he finished runner up.

Dewdrop with a 5-2 win over Merry-Go-Round took their unbeaten run to nine games in the Hilltop Friendly League and saw their opponents drop from second to fifth in the table. Despite having their game with Island Inn cancelled Old Hop Pole have taken over second place six points adrift of the leaders but with two games in hand. Jolly Collier who have played one game more than Old Hop Pole are on the same 12 points as their rivals and had a 4-3 win at Sportsman to put them in third place.

With four more fixtures to play Brandon, last season’s runners up lead the way in the Warwickshire Men’s Super League with a total of 130 points, reigning champions Coventry Bishopsgate are some 19 points adrift in second place but they do have a game in hand. Looks like the season will finish with the same two teams at the top of the table as last year, but will it be in the same order?

Scruffy Ringers handed out a 7-0 whitewash to their visitor’s Devil’s Club in the Camp Hill League but remain two points off the top of the table as Cotterills Lane Club extended their unbeaten run to five games with a 5-2 win at Lions. Holy Gulp won 4-3 against Wagon to put them on the same eight points as Ringers, but they have played six games as opposed to Ringers five.

Crown-Forget-Me-Not made it ten wins in as many games on division one of the South Birmingham League when they won 6-3 at The Raven to give them a six points lead over their nearest rivals Crown at Shard End who have played eleven games.

In division two, The Trident consolidated their second placing with a 5-4 win over The Dog who as a result drop two places to fifth. Banbury Flights were the league’s biggest winners of the week winning 9-0 at Smithswood Social.

The finals of their Mixed Doubles competition was the order of the day for the Forest of Arden Winter League and winning the event were the Journeys End duo Andy Howell and Sue Kingdon. Andy and Sue followed up their 2-0 win in the semis over Simon Edwards and Claire Powell with a 2-1 win in the final against Brian Anderton and Brie Davis (Greville Arms). The other losing semi finalists were Ryan and Debbie Derbyshire who lost 2-1 to Anderton and Davis.

There were a few surprise results this week in the Brierley Hill Monday Night League as second placed Roebuck lost 6-3 at home to Dog and Lamppost ‘A’, Roebuck dropping to third, High Acres also dropped one place to sixth following their 5-4 home defeat by Rose and Crown (Wordsley) and Rose and Crown (Brierley Hill) fell two places to fifth following their 5-4 reversal at Bulls Head (Netherton), all of the losing teams going down to reams below them in the table, no such problem for leaders Dudley Sports ‘C’ as they won 7-2 at The Griffin, Bridge ‘B’ join the top side on 18 points after a 5-4 win against Blue Brick.

There were defeats for the top two teams in the Brierley Hill Friday Night League, leaders Pensnett Welfare Club were surprise losers at home to sixth in the table Dudley Sports ‘B’ but hold on to pole position on average from Miners (Wollescote) whose 5-4 win at Brickmakers Arms sees them replace their opponents in second place. Brickmakers with 14 points are two adrift of the leading pair as are Roebuck and Netherton Cricket Club.

At the other end of the table Mitre recorded their first win in ten games a 5-4 success at Dudley Sports ‘A’ the two teams now both on 2 points, Mitre still bottom on average.

Just one rearranged fixture played in the Small Heath League which saw Emerald Club, after an early scare which saw them trail 2-0, beat Warwick Arms 6-3 to close in on the leaders Gulp Tribe who are now just two points ahead of them both teams level on average. Third in the table Mitre are on the same 20 points as Emerald Club.

It was cup week in the Halesowen Monday Night Ladies League, the Dean Corbett Cup which saw 4-3 wins for Park Lane Tavern and Townsend against respective opponents The Widders and Hare and Hounds. League leaders Spring Meadow moved into the next round with a win over Black Horse while Haden Cross had a bye.

It was round two of the Knockout Cup for the Harborne League and league leaders Abbey suffered a shock 6-3 home defeat at the hands of a Court Oak side who are currently fourth in the table, in round one of the league’s Plate Cup Bartley Green FC took out Smethwick Labour Club with a 7-2 scoreline.

In the Pip Club League’s division one Round Robin Birchmoor Club won their first game in three a 5-3 win away to Wigginton.

In division two there were big wins for the top two teams, leaders J W Belgrave winning 10-6 at Royal Oak while second placed Pip Club won 12-4 at Globe ‘A’, J W now on 32 points from 18 games, Pip have 26 from 19.

ECC lost for the first time in five games in division one of the Wolverhampton Tuesday Night League when they finished on the wrong side of a 4-3 result at Wednesfield FC who are now level on points with ECC and have a game in hand. Otter and Vixen and Wednesfield Legion ‘A’ are also on the same eight points as the top two teams. While ECC were suffering their first defeat Penn Bowling were enjoying their first win a 4-3 success against Riley’s D’.

In division two Pheasant retained the number one spot and their 100% win record with a 5-2 win over Whitmore Reans WMC, but it was a first defeat in four for Emerald as they lost 4-3 at Woodfield Social Club.

The top four teams in the Tamworth League all had big wins this week, Dolphin ‘A’ and Belgrave Club first and second in the table both won 5-2 against respective opponents Globe Inn and Three Tuns ‘A’ (Fazeley), while third and fourth placed Fox and Dogs and Old Liberal House both went one better with 6-1 wins in turn over Wigginton and Mile Oak Rovers.
