Group two in the Sheldon and District Summer League saw the top two teams do battle in the latest round of fixtures, leaders Sheldon Duke’s travelling to take on Kingshurst and District Labour Club. The result was a clear 6-2 victory for Sheldon Dukes to put them on 10 points, two clear of Kingshurst. In the same group Brook Meadow chalked up their first win of the campaign, an emphatic 7-1 success at home to EBAHA, to leave the away side still at the foot of the table seeking their first points.

Maggies dropped their first point of the season in group five when the best they could achieve was a 4-4 draw away to Farthings, who are second in the table. Despite being held to a draw, Maggies remain in pole position on 7 points with Farthings, their nearest rival’s two points adrift.

There was also a first win for Willclare Sports and Social in group six as they had a convincing 7-1 home win over bottom team Custard House Flights. Willclare move up the table into second place behind Langley Hall Sports and Social, who are now just one point in front of Willclare on six points.

The most recent fixtures in the two divisions in the Forest of Arden Summer League saw the top teams play the bottom and that was not the only similarity. In division one leaders Riley’s Red Arrow hosted Kenny’s Boys and just got through with a close 4-3 win. In the second division, the top team, Sheldon Arrows also played at home and they too finished with a narrow 4-3 win over Old Bill and Bull Flights.

Old Bill and Bull lost their second spot in the first division as they lost their home tie with the Greville 4-3, Greville have taken over second place and are now just two points behind Red Arrows with two games in hand, they are also the only team in the league still able to boast a 100% win record.

In the Small Heath League there was a local derby at the Custard House with the Flights. After opening up a 3-0 lead the Custard House were pegged back to 4-3, however, they won the final game to clinch a 5-3 win and stay within one point of the leaders Mitre, who had a more comfortable 6-2 success at home to Redhill Tavern.

At the Wagon and Horses title chasers Emerald Club were the visitors. The encounter went to the final game which was won by the home side, handing Emerald a shock 5-3 defeat and denting their title hopes. Emerald are now third, four points behind the Mitre.

The two bottom teams met each other in the Gulp League. Rebels were the home side taking on Ridgemere, the latter won 4-3, their first win of the season which lifted them off the foot of the table, their opponents taking over the bottom spot.

At the other end of the table leaders Tigers had a 6-1 home win over Monkeys to give them a total of 6 points, Tribe are on the same number of points but just a couple of legs short after a similar 6-1 win away to Lions.

In the battle of the Langley’s in the Camp Hill League, it was the top of the table team Langley Hall who beat Langley Hall Ladies 5-2.to amass 24 points from 12 games. Second in the league Lady Westminster handed out a 7-0 whitewash to Laddettes but remain two points adrift of Langley Hall and have played one game more.

The South West Birmingham Clubs Winter League are on the lookout for both new teams and players to join the league for the forthcoming season. The AGM is to be held at Stirchley United WMC on Tuesday 9th August at 8.00pm.
